Reel seats?

I am preparing to order a couple and was checking the types of seats on some of other rods and found a production Lamiglass rod that had a seat that is exactly like a spinning seat with a rubber plug in the lower end. I know it's not traditional but is there any functional reason not to use a graphite spinning seat? Thanks

Especially the Pac Bay aluminum 16 mm seat. Its listed as item #280-487 in the netcraft catalogue(www.jannsnetcraft.com) It cost less than $4 but I use it on most of my graphite rods and on some glass when I rebuild. Its a good sound seat. I build good cheap fishing rods, not fancy, but those reelseats will last forever. I don't use the graphite seats; nothing wrong with them; they just dont look good on a fly rod in my opinion, but everybody has different tastes-p--p-

I agree that woven look would look out of place.

Not a one. They are light, strong, and the threads are jam proof and corrosion proof. If you are building a glass rod for the punishment it can take, particularly in salt water, then a graphite reelseat is probably THE MOST functional reelseat you could have. The 16mm ID spinning seat is almost the same inner diameter as a standard fly rod reelseat, but at 1/4 of the price. Tom
