Posts: 262 (07/10/09 18:15:40) Adminstrator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I had an hour to kill after work today and introduced another Bogdan to the joys of chasing the Golden Ghost The rod was a Hardy fibalite which is becoming my go to Carp rod I've heard from a few collectors that I'd be hit by lightening for fishing carp with a Bogdan.......but two outings with two different Bogdan reels and so far so good Two things are certain: 1) I am nuts about Bogdan reels, and 2 ) Carp are GAME fish ! Mark B Something to consider: Be willing to share photos, information and the knowledge you have about your collection with anyone that has an interest in learning...........also share your knowledge to answer questions that others may have about items in their collections.........doing this will make you feel good and benefits this community ..................after all, what good is having knowledge that isn't shared. I've seen a couple of videos on carp fishing and it seems to be gaining in popularity. There aren't any carp (or bass) in this part of Alaska for me to chase, but I did grow up in Iowa. I used to catch carp while targeting catfish with spinning rods. That was back in the late 50s and 60s so I must have been using fiberglass spinning rods. I don't remember seeing anyone fly fishing back then. These days when I go back to visit I fly fish some pretty good trout streams! Maybe I'll have to find some carp on a future trip! Unfortunately I don't have a Bogdan to use!

I know they're a heck of a game fish. While I don't own any nice reels, I'd use 'em for carp, too, if I did. Nice rods and reels are meant to be fished!

Posts: 263 (07/12/09 12:38:22) Adminstrator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	The fly is a type of rubber legged black stone fly that is unweighted......I'm still very "green" when it comes to fly fishing for carp but I have tried enough to know that at times they are spookier than the wiliest of all brown trout. I started using the normal weighted flies but the "plunk" was spooking the fish so I switched to the unweighted black stone and it took two casts to get the fish shown above in this post. I was working a pod of about + / - 50 fish, but once this guy (or gal?) ran all over and scattered the rest of the group the fishing was pretty much done. That was OK though, since I only had a short window to fish....ONE was enough Mark B

I didn't know that was why carp were so hard to catch with a fly. I thought it was because of their nature. I guess I'll have to break down and buy a Bogdan and carp will be much easier.
