I just spoke to Dwight yesterday about some restoration work he's doing for me and he mentioned this rod so I had to come and look. Dwight does such very
very good work.
I think it's interesting that it's a Fisher blank finished out in the Hardy cosmetics. IIRC, according to the Johnson and Johnson book, Fisher actually built Hardy's plant for making the Hardy glass rods such as the JET so there's a real connection between Hardy and Fisher. It's pretty neat that the two have been brought back together in your rod. |

Greg,
Welcome to the Fiberglass Flyrodders! If you use the search there are more photo posts of Dwight Lyons built rods in the forum. You are right, he does excellent work. The Fisher and Hardy rod blanks have always had a very similar cosmetic look. With time the designs from the two companies diverged, particularly the graphite rods. Eventually Fisher closed up shop, but Hardy's Alnwick operation diversified to include other advanced composite products. Now only a limited number of fly rods are made in Alnwick, with most coming from China. That includes the latest Hardy glass rods. This time Hardy transferred the designs and technology to a foreign operation. Tom |

Hi, Greg,
Welcome to the forum as well. So, what's Dwight got cookin' for you? Boo or glass? |

Thanks for the welcome. Right now Dwight is finishing up some preservation work on an 8' 6" Goodwin Granger Favorite, a real oldy with the slide band
seat and the name stamped on the seat. 99% of the wraps are original but the varnish was drying out and shrinking back so Dwight is taking care of that. I
wouldn't trust a Granger to anyone else.
I do have two 3 piece glass blanks from Mark Steffen ( 8' for 5wt. and an 8' 6" 6/7wt) plus an 8' Winston 5/6wt Fisher made blank. So those may be headed out to Dwight soon. |

Huh? Last I talked to Mark he still couldn't do a 7 weight. That must have changed in the past 6 months as he told me that he didn't have a mandrel
that could do a 7 weight. Good to know.
Sounds like you have some great rods coming your way. Spencer |

Greg, if you get the chance try one of Dwight's glass rods. I now have three, 3 of my favorites. I met him at the bamboo fly rod fair this past weekend and
I cast a couple of his bamboo fly rods. They cast and look beautiful! Of all the rods I cast he had the nicest rods, imo.
