Yeah, I had a great time while I was there on Friday. The weather sucked, the river was a yellow mess, but those were the only complaints. The company was
great, the BS was deep (and I am not referring to Jack's cattle), the food was great, the fire got to be pretty warm and some camel trading took place.
Already looking forward to another cold, wet and fishless Glassic next spring. Hopefully I can stick around through Saturday! Frreed

Hey Guys
Yep, the weather could have been better, but the people and food more than made up for it. Russell and Jerry did an outstanding job keeping everyone well fed. I got to meet some people face to face that I've been talking to for a couple of years. It's always good to be able to put a name with a face. There were good buys to be had on some vintage rods and reels, plus lots of items to look at and try out.. I didn't fish, so I can't comment on that part of the weekend. All things considered, IMO, it was a fun weekend and I'm looking forward to the next one. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you. |

The water was a bit clearer on Sunday morning, and I managed to catch a couple of nice bass before it started raining again. Thanks especially to Russell and
the other folks who helped with the cooking. The food and company certainly made up for the bad weather!

Okay, so the Glassic is over. When is the next one? I've got Thursday and Friday off this week; is that too soon? Kurt and I arrived on Thursday and did
manage to get my tent up before it rained. However, there were other hazards. After Kurt shoveled all the cow poop out of our camp site, Jack's pets (a
small herd of red cows) decided to pay us a visit. They were milling around the tent, and as it was starting to get dark, they kept stumbling over the black
guy ropes. I thought one of them was going to eat my rain fly, as she kept mouthing it. They seemed rather impervious to my gentle entreaties of "get
the hell outtahere". As a welcoming gesture, they did replenish the cow poop. Thursday was hot and humid, which helped me build up a good sticky coating
on my skin. However, relief was in sight, as a good breeze from the south helped to cool things down until about 4:00 a.m., when a refreshing gust from the
north suddenly blew in at approximately 60 mph and soon had the tent vibrating cheerily. The rain that followed about 30 minutes later and continued for about
seven hours was just icing on the cake. Despite the rain, however, other weirdos, er I mean fellow forum members gradually filtered in, until we finally
achieved a quorum, which in concensus agreed "this weather really sucks". Hardy souls that we are, somehow rods and reels began coming out of
various nooks and crannies, and the wheeling and dealing was soon in full swing. While I heartily disdain the concept of "too many rods", I did have
several that were extraneous to my needs. Despite my sincere huckstering, I was unable to sell anything. I guess I just don't have the real killer
instinct of a good salesman. However, in recompense, I did obtain a Hardy Jet from Barry that I had been coveting. In general, despite the weather, a good
time was had by all, and I can hardly wait for the next outing of our boisterous group. Oh, by the way, except for Thursday evening when Kurt and I actually
managed to catch a few fish, the weather really pretty much did the fishing in. Oh well, nobody really went for the fishing no matter what they might say.

Guys, I will post my synopsis in the morning. Gary, how is that so far. I used a big word, and started my sentence with a capital letter! I would have already
posted, but twice I have posted, and it timed me out, so I lost everything. I'm pissed, right now! I will have to copy, and paste, then add pictures in the
am.
To be continued!! Russell Fly fishing is not the only part of the adventure!!

I really didn't think about the fishing. Especially since someone sent me nearly to Dallas to find a wal-mart to get a fishing license that I'd
forgotten I hadn't got for this year;)
I enjoyed being around a bunch of nut's and I mean nuts, but as good of peoples a man can come accross. The camaraderie and fellwship amongst those that have the passion of the sport and the intrest in helping others to learn the flyrod was class act. The unselfishness from the ones that did the cooking and preparing was awsome. And a great feed.... There was one (JB) that asked me what I learned? He showed me the roll cast. I now know how to attack the roll cast. There were others that shared their flys and furled leaders I'd never tried. I bought a wonderfull glass rod from Robert (Txtrout) it was a Berkley Parametric and he totally rebuilt the rod from blank scratch. Unbelieviable of what that man can do. He showed up Saturday and let us all cast his custom boo rods and we were at awe at the way they cast and workmanship. I have always shyed from boo rods as I thought they were to delicate to fish. Robert took one of his 1200 dollar rods, threw it on the ground and stomped all over it . I now know the boo is meant to be fished with and not hung on a wall:). Robert shared much of the history and design features of boo rods and he himself designs his own tapers improving on that of years gone by. Wonder why his waiting list is several years? He is definately a humble feller. Now for those that haven't met Barry (evanslmtd) in person, he's in a world of his own and would take his shirt of his back and slap you into shape, not give it to you;) A wonderfull and sensitive man he is, with much humor to go with it. The most peculiar feller that I finally got to meet was a modern day Mickey Rooney that goes by the handle keebranch. I had him pictured as a broad shoulderd tall man with long black eye brows looking over reading glasses. Well, he had a grin as big as Dallas and a personality to go with it. I think he caught the most minnows;) A man of integrity for sure..... Bud... ,,he was there. The chain saw deal on mixing drinks threw me. Guess I need to get out in the real world someday. The 'OKY' boys (Kirt &Larry) were gentlemen like. They loved to talk with us earth people (Texans).. They carried themselves as a late 19th century fly fisher on a stream waiting for the hatch. ( if you need a rod call Larry Thanx fellers, I had a great time.........................Ray......................... |

The 2009 Fall Glassic started with a lot of hype, and excitement, and ended with the result in wanting to have another one, soon!! Again the weather was a
factor, but it did not dampen the spirit, or the weekend. A few arrived early, and braved the storm/flood. It looked like a swamp when I got there, and others
said it was really bad, earlier in the day. The river was a mess, and the camping area, would have been a great stage for a mud wresting event!! Maybe next
year, Me versus Cody, if he has been drinking!! LOL!!!
Things really got started when Bud arrived, and the swap meet began. Activity was heavy that Friday afternoon. Curt came out the big winner, and I think Larry also made a nice purchase. Is there tax on these transactions?? As everyone began to arrive, it was time for the annual fish fry, and this one would not dispappoint. Jerry, and myself, got the fry together, and it was awesome!!! Fillets from Caddo Lake, fries, Dr Pepper onion rings, man those are good, Jerry's awesome Mexican cole slaw, and to top it off, Gary's peach cobbler, washed down with your favorite beverage, which for me, means BEER!!!
We settle down for the night, around the campfire, and prepare for the next day. That night, sounded like an orchestra of snoring, me as the conductor. You think the frogs make a lot of noise, come to one of these events!! The next morning, we have breakfast tacos, with all of the fixins, and then the trading resumes. Everyone gets into the action, swapping rods, reels, casting, and having a great time.
A few decide to break off, and go to try to find some clear water, below the dam at lake Whitney. We find the clear water, and some fish, too. Mostly small spotted bass, largemouths, and the rivers miscellaneous varieties of fish. I was having pretty good luck, throwing a small clouser made of EP fibers, near structure, down stream from the dam. Others did well, in the riffles below the dam. Les and Jerry did fairly good, and Jeff pulled in some too. As we arrive back at camp, Robert is there with his handmade bamboo rods, and he draws a crowd. Man are these nice rods!!! Great casting tools. Wish I could afford one. Bud, shows off his casting his skills, and that is a true treasure.
Then there was this amazing sound, that is frequently heard at this event, and men come running from miles away, to hear what is going on. It's the Weed-Whack-A-Rita machine, and the bartender is serving it up!! MM Good!! Now that we are filled up with the spirit, dinner is being made. JB is making this delicious cabbage dish, jerry is making a pot of pinto beans, and the Orion, pronounced O-Ryan, cookers were lit with 8 whole chickens, seasoned and ready to roast!! Yum-Yum!! Topped off by another Apple cobbler, and I am, believe it or not, FULL!!!!
Again we stumble over to the fire, for a night of laughs, and entertainment. We awake the next morning to rain, and we hunker down under the canopy, and plan the day. Breakfast is prepared, pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage. Camp is then broke down, a few go fishing, and that ends the Fall Glassic of 2009!! What a great time had by all. I am excited about my new Fenwick purchase. Another great fishing rod. That's what I do with my stuff. Not a collector, but a fisherman, and I love these glass rods. Thanks Bud for turning me on to the Fenwick rods, and for helping me with this sport. Much appreciated. That's what makes this bunch fun, and informative. Here are some pictures that need NO explaining!!! Except the 1st one. Gary's expression sums it up!!
No it wasn't a rally, but actually it's Bud's tent??
Attendes: Freed hope you can stay longer next year Barry always a pleasure Gary awesome cobbler, and cigars!! Jerry asst camp @#$%&, thanks for all of your help Les thanks for sharing your knowledge Bud thanks for the casting tips, and for making the Glassic what is supposed to be, a swap meet?? JB thanks for the cabbage dish, and trying to keep Cody in line?? Cody what can i say?? thanks for entertaining us, ten times?? Curt thanks for keeping the guys with fixed incomes afloat Larry thanks for helping clean up, and keeping the Oklahoma spirit alive and well Raybow thanks for coming, and get your license earlier next year!! Karl hope you made the right choice, over Octoberfisch?? Jeff thanks for helping flip the pancakes, and reminding barry he needs to make another round Robert thanks for showing off those amazing rods!!! maybe sometime i can afford one Curtis good seeing you again, save me a spot on the guad, this winter, i will return!! Raleigh thanks for the info, and contact for fishing the spring river, and let's go hit the blue!! Well, that's it for the 2009 Fall Glassic. Keep in touch, and remember, you will improve your odds at catching fish, if your fly is in the water!!! Fly fishing is not the only part of the adventure!!
