A trip to Rapid City. |
Lead | |
|
I spent the last few days in Rapid City, SD. My wife had a seminar she had to attend for work. I found some time to fish the streams around the city. I got to
Spring Creek w/ less than 30 minutes till dark. There was a few caddis coming off. I managed 2 fish on the "Duet" rod in the 7'3" length . I
found Rapid creek the next morning. As soon as I got there, the skies opened up. A nice gully washer turned the creek to chocolate milk. I fished it the next
day.Water was clear, but the sky was dark and nasty again. I rigged up and fished the first nice run next to the parking area.

Nice looking rig and fish. Normally heavy rain isn't a huge problem this time of year in the Hills. Heck, for much of the last decade this time of year
there is talk starting about creeks going dry. Too bad it wasn't the best fishing weather for you but it is nice to see the moisture out there.
Sure wish I made it there to fish more. Tim |

boarmountain...FIVE FISH in FORTY-FIVE MINUTES? I like those odds. What are your thoughts on the duet now that you've fished it?

Cameron wrote: I may be biased, but I'm VERY impressed w/ the rod. I fished the longer version w/ a DT5 for some bass last month. I only caught one, but the rod casted very well w/ larger streamers. On this trip I used the 7'3'' version w/ a DT4 and dries. Rod laid out a very delicate cast w/ great accuracy. Handled the large trout very well on a 6X tippet. |

It's a good thing the water got high, you may have wore yourself out if you would have had to fish for the full day. Nice looking rod and fish.

Next time you're headed to Rapid City, and you have time to spare, let me know. We've got some pretty incredible places I could tell you about,
that'll absolutely blow your socks off!

Auntie Em, I thought I read once where you said there were no trouts in SD?
Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time. |

I ask you now ... did I say ANYTHING about trouts? Just some "places" that will blow your socks off!!

Black Hills?? Who said "Black Hills"??!!
Something that may be of interest to you ... Steve Kinsella has written a book "Trout Fishing in the Black Hills". After 7 years, twice a year, 2 - 3 weeks at a time, we've still not covered all the waters mentioned in his book. Some are better than others, and some, you'll never want to leave. Then, of course, there's Lead, Spearfish, Deadwood, Cheyenne Crossing ....

Beautiful country around that area. Sounds like the fishing is pretty good also.

our indigenous peoples cherished that area with mighty good reason.

Seeing threads like this makes me wonder why after living my whole life in Minny I have never ventured off to try fishing the Black Hills.........it is now on
the list of places to explore....soon !
Mark B Something to consider: Be willing to share photos, information and the knowledge you have about your collection with anyone that has an interest in learning...........also share your knowledge to answer questions that others may have about items in their collections.........doing this will make you feel good and benefits this community ..................after all, what good is having knowledge that isn't shared. Mark if you do that be sure to check out Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. Man, what a beautiful place. There is no fishing but the colors and
all will blow your mind. Alos if you visit Mt Rushmore be certain to see Crazy Horse Monument. The later is more impressive for several reasons.
also, before you go to South Dakota ask Betty how to pronounce Lead so you won't be mistaken for a tourist |
