Which Marquis/System reel to balance 7'9" 5 weight |

McFarland Rod, I am looking for a nice match for a WF-5F fly line with trout type capacities. Would you look at the 5 or the 6 in a Marquis/System Reel to
balance the rod and have an average amount of backing with a WF5 Floater? Opinions welcome as I am shopping for a reel in advance of receiving the rod and
also have no way to test the reel regardless.

Hi Spencer DT;
I have the system 6 with a wf6 & backing, I can weight it for you when I get home if your interested in the total weight with line. Wayne |

I have the 5 & 6 and both will hold a wf5 but if you want the ability to hold a DT5 you might want to go with the 6. on my system 5 7' 7" 5wt rod
the 5 balances it at my index finger with line on the reel. with the 6 it does not even move the balancing point to the next finger down. My choice would be
the 6.

considering the SA/Fisher system 5 at 7'7" is an extremely lightweight rod and balances Marquis 5 perfectly, there is my vote.
Although, I fish mine with a Golden Prince 5/6 and Really like that combo.
the rods are never obsolete - the marketing is.

I just got the Spruce Creek 8' #5. It has an uplocking NS seat with a wood spacer. Lot's of guys on the board use a Hardy LRH and recommended it. So,
that's what I've wound up using. It balances quite nicely. If my memory is correct, the Marquis are fairly light reels. I'm guessing that if you
ordered an uplock seat, the System 6 should work fine.

The rod has a cork insert, not sure if this makes the seat lighter than a wooden insert, it is a downlocker. Thanks for the input so far.

Wayne, thanks for the offer. If you have time to weigh it that would be great!

The Marquis 5 weighs 5.0 ounces with a Cortland Sylk DT4F on it and weighs 5 1/8 ounces with a Wulff TT5F line on it.
The Marquis 6 weighs 5.50 ounces with a Rio Classic WF5F line on it and 5.75 ounces with a Cortland Sylk DT5F lline on it. |

Thanks for the info, those reels are lighter than I thought. I think I am going to keep an eye out for a 5. If anybody sees one let me know, I have my
searches dialed in on ebay.
