It has been a slow fishing year for me this year. Life can get busy, but I fought back this week.
The gear: 8'6" 5wt. 3pc. Mcfarland. For the first quick trip I lined it with WF 5 for nymphs. I only had two hours to spend on the water but it was
worth it. This rod is perfect for nymph/ indicator fishing. Slow enough where you just wait for it and sling out there. It can be a little tough against a
headwind and it doesn't cast a mile. But for most curcimstances it is sweet. This is the only rod that comes close to feel as my beloved Phillipson bamboo.
Here are a few action shots.
Not a bad afternoon for five fish at dark.
And here is the other fisherman.... Her second time with a flyrod. She is getting better.
Now for the real report. I decided to hit river for a overnighter. For the locals I went from 87 bridge to Castell on the Llano. I rigged the Mcfarland with
T-100 sinking line and Ron's famous Cat's Whisker. For two days I didn't change line or the fly. The weather was perfect and I was in heaven. I
will shutup and show you guys some pics.
I went alone but i did have a few friends on the river.
Here is the average size bass for this river. Not to big but they fight with passion.
Little bit bigger
After paddling a few miles I was ready to hit the sack.
Back at it in the morning.
Just beautiful in our hill country
And as I was loading up the rain came. We need more of this that is for sure.
It was a great time for fishing and introspection. I love taking solo trips and doing my own schedule every once in a while.
As for as as the rod goes. Order one. I am not sure how it performs for dry fly action yet. But it has been delightful so far.
Peace,
Trent
