Here's a few I had out casting the other day and decided to put together for a family portrait. I thought some of you may enjoy the pics... Top: 8'2" 2/2 Custom Taper Merrick/Howells 4/5wt. paired w/ a Cascapedia 2/3/4 Middle: 8' 5wt SF/MT Transitional Glass (probably built around the time of the move from CA to MT) paired w/ a Hardy LRH Bottom: 9' 6wt. pre-IM6 graphite paired w/ a Orvis (Young) Battenkill (Note: this pre-IM6 is the slowest and smoothest graphite i've ever cast... it's softer/slower than the 8' glass... it has an opaque finish (almost looks painted) and doesnt have the traditional graphite "rings" up and down the blank that come out in the sunlight... any insight as to what the story is? Serial # 7xxx... i have another pre-IM6 8'6" 5wt. which looks like any other graphite rod) -matt

Sweet trio of Winstons and reels. How much does that Winston boo weigh? And does the Hardy Casc. balance it well?

The boo is marked 4 1/4oz... it's a nice moderate weight rod... custom built for a gentleman who spent most of his time in France fishing the Pyrenees mtns. and wanted Ritz style parabolic... IMHO, winston failed at this (to me it's not parabolic) but it's crisper than most of the Merrick era Winstons so it's OK w/ me! (i'm not a big parabolic guy) It's funny, I bought it and fished it primarily w/ a 6wt. and it felt alittle heavy... set it aside for awhile and tried a 5... alittle better but I thought there was no way it would do a four. I had my Cascapedia rigged up w/ a DT4 and strapped it on. The reel balances it fairly well (as well as my 3 3/8" St. George at least) and the 4wt. was smooooooth on the rod. I was shocked and have fished it w/ a 4 ever since. -matt

I agree on those pre-IM6 Winstons. I have a 9' 7WT (serial # 19XX) that's incredibly smooth and slow. It's my understanding that those early blanks were made by Fisher for Winston.
