I posted this on another forum, but looking for custom leaders alittle less $$ than Feathered Craft. Possibly a member has a side business? Thanks

There are furled leaders, both mono and thread, available on the great auction site. I have purchased from Jon Quigley at Quigs.usa.net; he also is an ebay
seller. I like his products. There are others. You may also want to look on the classic fly rod forum in order to shop around. Prices for thread leaders
are around six dollars. In short, there are plenty of leaders out there.

I know Fly Goddess and Beauglass both offer furled leaders. I'm thinking there may be a couple of other members too,
but I'm drawing a blank on the names.

I'm slowly sliding into the furled leader abyss since Dane (Beauglass) sent one my way.

Ive got quite a selection of tapered furrled leaders, however Ive got way over a dozen on my using reels and rods, all made by our own Joni, (FlyGoddess), I
especially like her sinking leaders, she uses a Kelvar thread that adds both strength plus weight to sink them better.
Fact is I need to order a bunch more for the Bull Trout Clave to take with me, Richard |

Orygun wrote:I second this recommendation, I for the first time bought a few leaders from Jon Q. and they are the sweetest casting things. No stretching mono out before fishing, and they turn over bead head nymphs easy. I was shocked, and I dont think I would use tapered mono leaders again.. CJ |

CJ,
Welcome to the Fiberglass Flyrodders! It's nice to have visitors from Clark's. I agree about the furled leaders. They turnover well and don't curl. I like braids too, but furled leaders are much easier to have custom made. Tom |

Beauglass makes a really nice furled leader; try his 3(and 4) foot model ; he may also have the 3 foot model in florecarbon, which acts like a sink tip but
doesn't cast like a sink tip. Beauglass has the shorb loops on each end for a nice loop to loop for changing tippits and leaders-p-

I agree with CJ, I've been using furled leader for a few years now. Would not use anything else. Purchased them from Jon Quigley. His are made from uni
thread. Just put a coat of musculin on the night before I go out and they float most of the day. I am still using the ones I purchased from him 3 yrs ago. Just
add 2 - 3ft. of your favorite tippet and "fish on "
Kathy Scott got me interested years ago and if I am not mistaken her school students make them and sell them to raise funds for their field trips. Try them you'll love them Jack

I have several furled leaders by Kathy Scott and a couple made by her students in the H.S. fly fishing club. I have come to love the furled ones almost as much
as the Orvis braided leaders. Two of the furled ones for the price of one braided, so I'll be weaning myself over to just furled as soon as the braided
ones are gone.

It is a very adictive leader, both furrled and braided tapered, sense Ive used them I use no others either. The handshake coupling and right tippets really do
make the difference. I think I look like an adict for a line company when Im fishing, I have at least 5 different sizes of tippet spools on my vest, even
though Im only using two different furrled, braided tapered leaders, one wet and one dry, I can vary the fly size on my wets from 8 to 16 and on my drys from
16 to 24 quickly and even switch to multipal wet fly leaders as well. I think now I want to get Joni to work on some three fly wet furrled tapered wet leaders,
now that would be an interesting setup Im thinking. Ive found that with using the furrled leaders that my fishing with wets has improved light years, far more
fun that it was with the old knotted leaders.
