Hi folks,
Been quite a while since I posted any pics- been busy with Sophia (hard to believe she is 15 months old already). The wife and I have another child on the way too- due in late Aug./ early Sept.
Anyhow, this is the only rod I worked on all winter. Started life as a Cabelas Fish Eagle Traditional Graphite 9' 6wt 4pc blank. I removed the gloss from the blank with 0000 steel wool, and then proceeded to drop the butt section ending with a 6'9" 3pc. 6wt. This will be used for bass out of my kayak. Has a really sweet parabolic action- stiffer tip and softer butt- not fast at all for graphite and very pleasing to cast. Hope to get it wet soon.
Reel seat is a PacBay A5 black hardware w/ walnut insert mounted as dowlocking, mini Fenwick style grip, garnet wraps w/ white trim and a 12" big fish single inlay wrap. Wraps were finished with 3 coats of Minwax wipe on satin poly (brushed on), topped with a light coat of Flex Coat lite. The Wipe on poly is water thin and pentrates really well to seal the wraps and I will definitely use it again. Guides are Fuji alconites- 12 stripper, 8, then 7s out to the tip and I used 9 guides alltogether to aid in stripping through pond scum.
Pics
I also decided to omit a butt cap (I didn't have one handy) and just decided to plug the opening in the reel seat with a cork plug. I may drill it out and epoxy a mini fighting butt into place at some point, but that is not a priority.
Sorry this isn't glass, just wanted to contribute SOMETHING since it has been so long. I still want to build an 8' 5wt Lami and that will be my next project- perhaps not until next winter though.
Thanks for looking.
Lou
