I've stripped down the two top pieces of an old bamboo 9 or 10 weight. I don't know what weight it will cast, but anywhere from 4 to 7 weight will be
fine. I coated it with 6 or 7 coats of Minwax, Wipe-on, Clear, Gloss polyurethane. I ordered a reel seat from Angler's Workshop, and instead of the
polished aluminum hardware with teak wood insert, I got black hardware with teak insert. To be as honest as I can be, I'm happy they sent the black
hardware. Now all I need is a black hook keeper, black winding check, and some more black snake guides. Here are a couple of pics;

lotech, looks great! I've built up 2 little rods like that myself, they have both turned out nice. one is a 3wt, the other a 5wt. some will scoff at doing
that to a bamboo rod, but it's a great way to make an old club usable. I use the 3 wt for brookie streams, the 5 wt for panfish out of a canoe. bought a
huge bundle of bamboo rods and sections at a flea market last year for 30 bucks. was able to restore/rebuild 5 rods out of it!! gotta look for the bargains!!
none are museum pieces, but they are all nice fishable rods that cast wonderfully.
hopefully we won't get yelled at for talking bamboo!! fiberglass is still awesome!!! |

Love that Minwax Wipe-on Poly. I used the satin on an electric guitar body that I stained this winter- love the ease of use. I am considering using it is a
sealer coat on thread wraps on a current graphite 6'10" 3pc. 6wt project that I am about to wrap up. 1-2 coats of the wipe-on Poly followed up by a
coat of Flex Coat Lite might make for a really nice finish. That Wipe-on Poly is water thin, flexible, and can be recoated within 4-6 hours so it should work
out well. Nice project you have going there. I used that seat once- nice bang for the buck.

Lotech, That looks mighty fine!! Did you leave that much room between the tape wraps, or did you fill in more for better epoxy contact? That's going to be
one fine little rod! Auntie Em

Here's the end product. I left the gaps between the tapes because that's the way I've always done it and it has always worked. I'm not as good
at rod building as I used to be, but this rod is going to be loads of fun.
I can hardly wait to use it. I have a little brook north of Spokane I'm going to explore this summer. Loaded with brookies, should be fun.
