Alittle help, as I thinking of possibly Hardy , Orvis CFO, etc to match with Mike's rod. Any sweet combinations, even photos would be nice. Thanks

I'd look for a JLH #6.

I've got a nice Canadian Islander on mine. It balances well, has all the drag I need for trout, and I love that classic click pawl sound. The light
aluminum finish matches the hardware perfectly (don't tell my wife I actually said that!).

Hardy LRH, especially if you have the Slide Bands on the reel seat ... or, a tricked out Pflueger Medalist 1494

Another vote for the Hardy LRH.
It's what is hanging from my 8'0" 5wt McFarland! FUBO |

My 8' 5wt is on order and I just sent my LRH to Bulldog for a tune-up. I can't wait to put them together with fish on.

I have a new McFarland 7'9" 5wt being built and will use my Hardy LRH on it.

I have an LRH and Abel X-Stream (TR-2). I expect my 8' #5, 3pc. to be finished soon and had also wondered which reel would BALANCE the best. You're all
saying the Hardy is the right weight? Abel's a bit heavier... I'll have to line up the LRH instead of the Abel...?

I can't believe I'm the first one to say a J. W. Young reel...Pridex or Beaudex.

I have one of the Hardy Uniquas from Hook & Hackle that seems to be a pretty good reel that costs a little less than the other Hardys.
When I receive my McFarland I'll go through my reels until I find the one that has the best combination of balance and appearance whether that be a Hardy, Young, Abel, or maybe even a Gem or Medalist. |
