Orvis Magnalite Multiplier Papers? |
Lead | |
|
The one built by JW Young for Orvis. I've recently purchased one from a board member would like to have a copy of the papers should anybody have a set and
care to post them. I've not had a multiplier before and am looking forward to the experience. If anybody has any particular tips regarding its care and
feeding, I'm interested.
Thanks, Hayden

Good Morning Hayden. I've been looking for papers as well. I believe that the Magnalite is the same as the Shakespeare Speedex if memory serves. I tried to
do a search this morning, but couldn't get the search function to respond. I know there was a lengthy post last year on these reels but don't know if
anyone posted the papers or not. I'll keep looking and post them if I find them.

I think Paul may be correct here, so start with this post from DocFly

Thank you Paul and Ron. The Speedex papers will likely cover what I need. I'd some vague recollection of these all sharing the same ancestry but it was
pretty vague when I searched through here and over at Clarks under variations of Orvis and Young. I found some great photos but no papers. If anybody does have
the Orvis papers it would seem there are a couple of us interested in them.
Now if we would just get some rain, I might have a white bass run to try it out on, per Ron's earlier postings. Thanks again, Hayden

great reel for white bass.
OOPS, sorry Hayden, I lead you astray. That's not Paul (ribs1 - I looked too quickly) - it's Howard, our resident Orvis expert. That's what I get for working and posting at the same time.

Here's a Speedex discussion, where I think the family resemblance, if yours is the one branded for Orvis, will be clear. Cofisher has the Orvis version. I
bet you'll like the reel. Nice stout adjustable click drag and palming rim--I found myself using it in favor of my MG 10s, which have a higher gear ratio
and no palming rim. If it's the identical reel except for label, then the link to Dr Fly's Speedex papers covers it; I have the same ones.
Just in case, the other Orvis I know of was the Leeda Gear Fly also sold as a Cortland, Gladding and probably some others. I do have papers--I think they are posted someplace--for the Gladding. Hope you got the Young-made Orvis, as it is the better of the two. http://fiberglassflyrodders.yuku.com/topic/5294 |

There were two version of the Orvis Magnalite. The one to the left is the JW Young version. The one on the right is the BFR/Leeda version.

nice photos. The BFR looks better on the outside, but I sure like the Young reel o the inside.

Great. Cofisher has it nailed in that fine series of photos. Here's a few more of the Leeda/BFR version.
