Registered Member Posts: 2 (01/16/09 08:45:05) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I have an excellent condition 6 1/2' brown fiberglass fly rod labeled Spaulding Rods, Rensselaer 4, N.Y., with dark gold wraps tipped light gold and cream, Phillipson style winding check over wrapped with the dark gold as are the female and male ferrules, aluminum down locking reel seat with walnut insert. The rod is not labeled as to line weight but I think it casts best with a 5wt. Comes with a bag and partially labeled tube. Any help with value would be appreciated. Thanks. Since you said EX condition, that leans it to the high side right off. Maybe more on a good ebay day. I paid $275 for a later 6'6" Phillipson ferruled yellow glass (Master), LL Bean Lightweight in Mint condition. Listing on ebay with the Japanese bidding and Phillipson made as part of the title, it could skyrocket. The yen is the one currency that is strong against the dollar right now. Hope this helps. Glad you are here! As near as I can tell, Spaulding was a very talented, custom rodbuilder in eastern New York. I got to handle one of his rods at the Northeast Glass Clave a couple years ago (thanks John for bringing that rod!). You can see photos of this particular rod on this earlier FFR thread. While there are some definite Phillipson like touches to the rod, it was not made by them. The one I handled was a very sweet casting rod. The thread work is impressive. As far as value goes, this is one of those rods that is hard to estimate because there are not many sales for comparison. I think there was a Spaulding on eBay a few months back. I vaguely recall the selling price was between $100 and $200. I don't recall the length, but I think it was in good shape. Tom

The rod that I have looks identical to the pictured rod (same color blank, same colors in the wraps, and same wraping style) with the exception of having a reel seat with a walnut insert. I would agre with tiethefly that the rod appears to be a wrap on a Silaflex blank by Spaulding.
