Man Purse |

I know this isn't directly related to glass rods, but does anyone besides me want to admit to having a favorite man purse fishing bag? I like my old Wood
River bag. Come on and admit it. Some of you like a fishing purse.

I was told my Chapman Troutbeck makes me look dainty - whadaya think?

you'll actually find a lot of proud "murse" lovers here.
Mine's a Shakespeare Medium Game bag. and I much prefer it to a vest. <ClutchingMyMan-CardForDearLife.mov>

learning the intimate characteristics of the fish and streams we fish most."

Bulldog,
Looks like there are two of us ... I have that exact same bag and it looks like we are about the same size. One disconnect though ... I don't seem to find fish like that very often. Ken |

it's the same fish that leads off this post:
http://fiberglassflyrodde...t/Guadalupe-tailrace.html 20 minutes from my house, here in south Texas. We catch big hens and bucks all winter long. Watch for the Guadalupe River episode of TU On the Rise, with Jimbo and I fishing with Frank Smethurst. It may be out as early as March, since they already ran the Pine Creek, PA episode shot for the new season.

Packgoat, you'll find that many of us here on FFR either already carry or will carry next season. I think it has something to do with tradition and
intelligence (and maybe good looks as well). Check out this link.

my friend Jimbo carries a 30-lb. fishing vest and always complains of cervical strain - go figure.
The nice thing about a bag is that you can't bring your whole filing cabinet with you. In fact, my vest is on a hanger on a pegboard, and I use it as a filing cabinet.

I use a Chapman 14 Fell bag and love it. It's basically the same as the Troutbeck without a liner, I believe. It carries everything I need, including a
water bottle and lunch and a lightweight Hardy wading jacket. I won't ever go back to a hot, cumbersome, overstuffed vest. The only drawback to the Chapman
bag is that's it's expensive. There's a lot of flyfishing tradition with a shoulder bag, but for me, it's just a more comfortable way to carry
my gear without feeling like a walking fly tackle shop. It also made me more of a minimalist. I can fish all day and feel unemcumbered. If you have not tried a
good shoulder bag, you ought to. I just got tired of not being able to see my feet because of the vest and the "Dolly Parton" syndrome....
Bamboo is the Benchmark for flyrods. |

I missed it too, I fished Pine Creek and Slate Run a few years ago. Challenging little water with big browns.

I ordered a Hardy Test gear bag last week through Matt Schliske. I guess the
bag is back ordered right now...but should be here soon enough. I've fought the urge to own a "Man Purse" long enough.

Cofisher pokes fun at me (and I at myself) for wearing a fly vest so full of fly boxes that I can use the distended, bloated pockets as armrests. I am afraid
to weigh it. This year I am embarking on a quest to become more of a minimalist. I may have to withdraw in stages. Maybe a man purse and a chest pack? One
of my strategies is to use a flybox from a Wyoming company called Cliff Outdoors. This link takes you to their product page. Look at the bottom for a flybox
called the Super All Day. Allows you to carry streamers, drys/wets/nymphs, and tiny flies all in one box. http://www.cliffoutdoors.com/products.php
I have been using their Bugger Barn for years, and it is an awesome product. Anyway, one of these Super All Day boxes, plus one specific flybox based on the most likely hatch of the day; mayfly, midge, terrestrial, or caddis, and I will be set. Only two boxes. A trip to the army surplus store before trying an internet order for a surplus "purse" will occur soon. Playing the Devil's Advocate, what are the drawbacks to using a shoulder bag? Seems like it would flop around when scrambling to net a fish, or maybe catch on brush when plodding through the bankside tangles. You guys that use them, would a small chest pack and a shoulder bag work together? Regards wacokid54 |

I just ordered up one of these, drain holes in it, etc. Looks like it will be a sweet man purse...
