I just finished this rod and thought I would post a few pictures. I haven't been building but a couple of years so I still have a ways to go on my
skills. My photography skills also need some work too. I used the following components:
Riffle Glass 7'6" 3/4wt blank
Western style cork grip
Struble D3 black reel seat hardware
Deer antler insert
Golden Witch speckled jasper stripping guide
Perfection black snakes
Brass ferrule band (homemade)
YLI tan silk with black tipping
3 1/4 Black Condex reel

That's a beatuiful build. I love the antler insert. And the wrapping color combo Did you get the insert from Les? Another question- is the Riffle a
Lamiglas? I don't recall anyone saying who rolls them. Once again, excellent build.

Thanks for the kind words. The Riffle Glass (a.k.a. Kettle Creek) blank came from Phil's shop. There have been several threads about them. The antler insert came from Bob Farrand over on the rod building forum. When I finally decided which blank I wanted, it was almost deer season here and I wanted to build something that included both of my passions......fly fishing and deer hunting. A question for you Doug, or any others that might know. I noticed the white of the antlers. Will it "mellow" with age, turn another color maybe?

Sweet build! I like that color combo. I've never fooled with silk thread. Is it troublesome? I like the insert too. Is it stabilized? |

This is the first antler insert that I have used. I have seen some others and they will darken slightly with age. I hesitated before buying it because I was
afraid it would be too heavy but they are as light as wood. I really like the look of the antler with the black hardware. If it does turn color on me, I can
just sand it down, at least that's the plan.

The silk thread is easy to use and you can get some cool effects with it. The insert appears to have a very light coating on it, but it may be just the high polish sheen of the antler. I'll ask Bob the next time I talk to him. Doug |

Welcome to the board! If you own Cummings rods, you are definitely in the right place. Please post some pictures of the rods as we all love pictures. I appreciate the kind words about the rod. I really like the action. I am pleased that you find the 8' 4/5 to be a great rod as I have that blank on the way. With the rod building and fly tying this winter, I hope this helps the time pass and spring arrives early. Doug |
