Pacchef23,
Welcome to the Fiberglass Flyrodders! From the SP40-8 model number, I suspect the Berkley Spartan is similar to the various Berkley Parametrics. In general, 8 foot Parametrics are 6/7 weight rods, depending on your tastes. The Spartan doesn't get mentioned that often, so any details you could provide about it to the forum would be welcome. Happy Holidays! Tom |

now that is a nice rod; i bought a red and white one with five line guides on it; used orange stripper and got rid of the paint; underneath is a beautiful
translucent blank just like the higher dollar parametrics. I added some guides and it is one of my favorite rods. It'l cast a wf6 or wf7 . i like it with a
7 best. I carried it to the post office and weighed it. It was almost a half ounce heavier than my parametric,(4.3oz.) which i attribute that to the big rubber
winding check i left on it. The rod is very light in hand and performs as good or better than any of my other parametrics. Somewhere back in time I think i
posted some pics of my re-do. If you get tired of it laying around i know where you can get rid of it!!!It is an all around lake rod; I use it primarily for
black bass, but fish it when the whites are running. I have re-done several berkleys, but the spartan is the only one that had the same blank as the USA

I have an 8 1/2' Berkley Sportfisher that's marked with a model number of PF40. It has spigot ferrules, but I don't know if the blank is the same
as a Para/metric. It has that unpolished spiral surface that some glass rods have. I think it was sold as a lower grade than the Para/metric- it has only 5
guides on it, including the stripper! But in lawn casting, it was still servicable enough to throw a WF8 almost to the end. The blank is painted sort of a mint
green, with blue wraps and white trim.

I appreciate the replies. Very helpful. I will cast it on the lawn with a WF7 as soon as Seattle's weather permits. I purchased a Bronson Royalist reel to
fish on it and a Shakespeare I am restoring. The Shakespeare has the appropriate amount of guides now and can't wait to see the difference between the two.
I am also finishing a short bamboo quad this week and will do the test cast before passing it on to the customer. Busy week.
