I'd want to use it with a 6wt WF, maybe something a little on the heavier side for Smallies.
Will this model comfortably accomodate 6wt WF lines with .... how much backing?
Thanks
Ken

Need help determining the Line Capacity for a Pflueger Medalist 1494DA ... I'm not very familiar with these Reels but do know the "DA"
designation means I can easily switch it to LHW.

per HookHack.com 1494 capacity is WF6 plus 70 yds backing.
DA is the Shakespeare date code for 1970, they year they bought Pflueger - your reel was made sometime within the next dozen years.
the rods are never obsolete - the marketing is.

I've got a collection of DA Pfluegers - actually I've got at least one of every size. For a 6wt, the 1494 is just a tad too small IMHO. I use the 1494
1/2 for 6, the 1494 for 5, the 1492 1/2 for 4 and the 1492 for 2 and 3. This has more to do with the size/weight of the reel than backing, after all a
smallmouth bass has never gone into my backing! Also I fish a lot of double taper lines, and the above suggestions reflect use of DT lines.
Also, I haven't noticed any difference in build quality with any of the DA series reels I own, and I started buying them back in 1972. Joe C. "Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the

Here's a good series to look over. I'd settle it with a 1494 1/2, but why settle it when you can have the 1494 as well.
