Welcome | ||

Hi, being local and having the opportunity to be at the July gathering, I want to share Mike's comments to those who will be attending for the first time.
It does not get any better than this for fly fishing in Central,PA. I spoke to Mike this morning and I will have my new Mcfarland 7'2" 4 wght
semi-parabolic rod matched to an Abel 0 reel for anyone wanting to cast, or fish with this combo. Several of the guys I have met and now can call friends, and
if there is anything one needs, I will be happy to help. Us locals love to share Central, PA with the fine folks on this forum.

Hey Jeff!
We think alike! I ordered a BG 0 from Abel on the 5th. I should be getting it any day. Mine will be Deep Green for obvious reasons! But that's okay! I'm sure I have a few reels around here that will look good on a McFarland rod! |

...hey all... i just tripped over this thread... wow, great to see so many are attending... this will be great!!... as for your PA license, you may purchase it
at the hardware store up in the little town of millheim... it is only 3 miles north of Jonas' B&B where we will be staying... Tom, if you or anyone
else arrive via taxi, we'll drive you up there as I need to get mine as well... I was down there last week and spent sooo much time catching up with the
gang that I never bothered to fish... it was cold and rainy as well... see ya all in 3 days....... by the way, for any new-commers, you'll have a great
time even if the weather drops 3 ft. of snow... promise...

Can't wait to put some faces with the avitars. <g> I wasn't sure if fishing will be the focus? or if we'll be too busy gawking at tackle and test-casting, and eating, and drinking, and such? So, thanks for the heads-up on the close-by source for a license. I may just wait 'till I get there to decide if I'm fishing, or not. Although, the weatherman says "Sunny and a high of 57d"; at least at this point. (I just checked...) Question: How early in the am do things get-going? Is 9:00 too early to arrive? (3hr. drive for me, it looks like.)

Hi Corlay... I've done the drive every which way possible from Syracuse and it always takes approx 5 hours... a guy has gota stop to get coffee and pee...
and it takes me 1 hour 10 minutes to get to Binghamton from Syracuse... therefore, i would plan on an easy 3.5 to 4 hours... ...three best ways from Bingo town
is south on Rt 81 to west on Rt 80 and get off at Lamar exit... but beware, nearly every time I do the Rt 81 route I wind up in some traffic jam around
Scranton... OR... drive Rt 17 west to Waverly and take Rt 220 alllllll the way to Rt 80 west and a few miles west on Rt 80 to Lamar Exit (overall, a very
pretty route in fall)... OR ... take Rt 17 west to Corning and go south on Rt 15 to west on 220, which will dead end into 80... take right onto Rt 80 and drive
only a few miles to Lamar Exit... go down into Lamar (Left off exit, I think that's Rt 64) a couple miles, another left to Tylersville (you'll drive
past Federal Hatchery)... up through the gap (Big Fishing Creek will be on your immediate right, carefully watch for horse and buggies, they are everywhere)...
right on Rt 880 up over the mountain... right onto 192... west a few miles and take left onto 880 again to continue south into Millheim ( Elk Creek will be on
your immediate left)... go straight through light in Millheim approx 3 miles to Coburn... you won't miss the B&B/Fly Shop as we'll likely be in the
middle of the sleepy narrow Main Street test driving glass and bamboo rods... Penns Creek will be 25 yards in front of you...

Bob,
I had already planned to take the Waverly/Sayre (220) route, as I live a bit west of Binghamton. And plus it is a nice scenic drive that I haven't traveled on in about 20 years. And also, yeah, this summer anyway, there was lots of construction/delays around Scranton. I also was planning on skipping I-80 alltogether, and instead opting for the "Old PA Pike" (Rt.45w at Lewisburg). Yeah it may be more like 3.5hrs. ...

Had the week from hell this week at work - really looking forward to this weekend! It's looking like I might be able to take off early
tomorrow am and hope to arrive mid-day. Looking forward to meeting some new folks, and seeing Mike, Jonas, Jeff, Bob and Duff again. The thought of standing
in a stream again sounds so good!
Regards, Steve |

I recovered enough to head up to Mike's gathering for an over-night on Saturday. You all owe it to yourselves to make it to one of Mike's gatherings -
great people, great rods, great hospitality ... and did I mention thirty of the most beautiful filet mignons on the planet? It was just great to see so many
good friends again. Cameron, I'm sorry I didn't get a good shot of our Bob last night but I assure you he was looking very much like that first photo
around 1:00 AM last night.
