The seller said that it was a five weight rod. I didn't want to bid any higher because I wasn't sure if Wright & McGill made a five weight Sweetheart. Johnson's book shows the 7'6" 2A Sweetheart as a seven weight rod, just like the 8'6" Sweetheart that I already have. Has anyone seen a five weight Sweetheart?

It's the only year I can find them but they were definitely Eagle Claw marked rather than Wright & Mcgill. Throughout the years Sweethearts were 6-9 weights.

The result is estimates like "feels like a 5 weight" or "should fish well with a 4" - even if the rod should be fished with a 7 weight. These guys haven't actually cast the rod, nor would they know what it should feel like it they did. Take any estimate by an eBay seller with a big grain of salt. Or just ignore it completely. The same goes for cane rods. There are a few sellers that know what they are doing, but they are few and far between. However, you will recognize their sales when you see them. Tom

Q: Hi- What is the line rating for the rod? thanks A: It says in very small print "line 5" Hope this helps. I'd say it was one of the 5 weights that Cofisher is talking about, but this rod is a 7'6" rod. The Sweetheart ad from the Wright & McGill Eagle Claw catalog of 1966 in Johnson on page 77 shows fly rod models of: 2A7' 6 Weight 2A7.5' 7 Weight 2A8' 7 Weight 2A8.5' 7 Weight 2A9' 9 Weight CoFisher- I assume that you are looking at Wright & McGill/Eagle Claw catalogs. There must have been two different catalogs in 1966. Could the rod have been a custom rod? Or could the rod have been mislabeled? A case in point are their 3 piece rods. I've only seen one 3 piece rod offered in their catalogs, yet I have seen many models in 3 piece configuration. I photographed the page from the 66 catalog. (and I also compared it to Johnson, it's slightly different) I wouldn't be surprised to find out that your rod is a 71/2 5wt. despite what the catalog says. Perhaps the salesman's catalog was different? Does your rod have the Eagle Claw emblem on the grip?
