My dad got me a WM 3a 7'6 rod at a garage sale yesterday.It has a red reel seat and multi color wraps.Im unsure what i have and line weight.I talked with someone and they said probally a 5 weight ?Anyway ant suggestion would help.By the way awesome sight!! What do i have (Result) Line weight ?

The rod you have is almost certainly a 7wt, though it might like a DT6. Unlikely that it's a 5, that would have been a very light line for that period of glass. Hope this helps. Joe C. Without my catalogs I can't say for certain, but it should cast a DT6 or 7. Make sure you have a heavy enough reel to balance the rod for you otherwise nothing will feel just right. Let me know if you want me to post additional information like catalog page and I can do that when I get home from work. I have an 8' 3A with red aluminum reelseat and multicolored wraps.

Perhaps the best generic way of testing the line weight for glass would be 7' = 5/6; 7 1/2' = 6/7; 8' = 6/7; 8 1/2' = 7/8 and so on. Unlike the modern graphites, the longer the glass the more line weight required to load it up. So experiment - try a DT6 and then a WF7. It can be fun discovering what line a rods likes. Les
