I went to Lake Fork with my brother last week to try our luck at some LMB. As we were preparing the yaks he opened the bed cover on his truck to reveal a fly
tying desk. He asked what I thought of it and I told him it was very cool. He said "good because it's yours". My birthdays not until next month
but I grabbed it up anyway. I tied on it all weekend and I think I'll keep it.
By the way, he caught all the fish. I got skunked.

Very nice!! You know the "rules"....anyone with a "new toy" is required to conduct the next fly swap.

I'd say it would be the choice of whoever conducts the swap. Any takers???

caddis4 wrote:I've been planning to try and organize a "Traditional Winged-Wet Fly" swap. Thought it might help inspire the participants to fish wets. Also, these old patterns are fun to tie, and beautiful to behold. But, I'm waiting on a back-ordered shipment of tying materials from H+H, so I' haven't said anything yet.

Hello
That is very cool and to have a brother that knows your needs is priceless. I am in the process of building a portable tying bench for the S.R.R.A. December fly tying event for a door prize. Just finished putting the last coat of varnish on I hope to assemble it tomorrow if you don't mind I will post a photo when complete. Must be the time of the year for tying benches . Excellent table top set up. A buddy years ago had a roll-top desk for tying, you could make a real mess then just pull the top down to hide it all from the
wifey. Was a great set up, if I ever have the space I will look to purchase one. Until then I may take some cues from the one pictured in this thread.
Also, Count me in for another swap if you guys have one. I do a good march brown wet and could stand to work out a few other traditional patterns. Tying contest? Not with some of the tiers we have here. I value my self esteem! |

Sorry...didn't mean to put you on the spot. Judging from posts on other threads, plus the upcoming holidays, IMO a January swap would be ideal.
