I am starting to enjoy glass fly rods and am wondering where you find used rods?
Thank you |

Probably the number one place is Ebay under fishing. Lots of rods come up, but you can't handle them first and everybody in the country is looking.
Rod dealers have the best selection, but the highest prices since they did all the footwork. Another is through the community. Rod freaks, TU members, fishing club members etc can trade rods around. One serious bamboo guy I know swears every good bamboo rod has been owned by everbody else at one time or another. Fishing shows are good. Lure Collector shows (I hate that the eastern FLAC is moving a few hours further away from me from Allentown to Carlisle), gun collector shows (gun guys carry rods now and again but part with them easier), and fishing flea markets. i.e. last weekend was the New Jersey Outdoor Heritage Festival which had a flea market area. In 10 minutes there I bought a brand new Cortland Pro-Crest in it's tube and a Phillipson X76. Yard sales, estate sales, and regular flea markets are OK. Got to cover a lot of ground to find anything. I find you have to hit the sales in the older neighborhoods - if you see piles of baby clothes out front I wouldn't bet on finding a classic glass rod. The good thing about glass rods is they aren't that old and plenty of good Fenwick, Berkley, SA etc rods show up fairly frequently. On the other hand, I have yet to see a Russ Peak rod in the flesh. |

I think a good place to start is to watch the for sale listings on the forum. New rods pop up all the time as guys look to trade up and you will find fewer surprises than dealing with ebay "found at an estate" listings. |

tmo9cpt,
Welcome to the Fiberglass Flyrodders! Jeff has given you some of the best suggestions. If you have a good idea what you want, put a post on the Wanted board and see if anyone has a rod they are willing to sell. Another good investment of your time is to talk with your local fly shops. People trade up rods all the time and they see all sorts of stuff offered as trade. Let the shop staff know who you are and that you are looking for glass rods. Leave them a card with your name, contact info, and preferences. They may be willing to take a trade if they know they have a potential buyer. By the way, 7'6" glass rod is a pretty broad catagory. You may wish to narrow it down a little. What kind of fishing do you wish to do with the rod? Tom |

Look at http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites for your
area. I found a Fenwick FF755 there in excellent condition when a guy was clearing out a deceased relatives estate.

I agree with Jeffsod, I've bought a number of rods, reels and lines from board members and have been happy; much happier, on average, than my ebay
efforts.
