Here is a photo of my Orvis Battenkill that I bought in the 1960s in Manchester VT. I loved the place back then, especially since that was where I met my wife
40 years ago.

Gotta love those Young Battenkills. They'll stop a freight train and so nice to look at.

Yes...what a classy reel...and I really like the cork, hardware, and insert on that rod as well. Nice work.

I agree with Cameron!!!
That is one sweet reel and the reelseat is the look that I really like. If that were my outfit I'd put a picture of it on my bedroom ceiling so that I could look at it every night while I fall asleep! I bet that Tibor Spring Creek would look pretty good on that rod too! |

Also belongs in the "best reel " discussion now in progress. I remember a guy showing me his drawer full of Hardy lightweights in his VW camper van
on the banks of the Battenkill about 1973. I could stand it not having one and to this day never got one and don't want one. But I think if somebody had
showed me that Battenkill back then (or the JW Young version), I'd have checked my wallet and headed to the Orvis shop ASAP. A prized reel to have since
new.

I have several Hardy reels that I bought years ago, and still use them. But I could not afford them at today's prices, tho.
Fine flyrods can be made from different materials, but bamboo is the Benchmark against which all the rest are compared......
