It has floated around our garage for some time, but should probably find a good home. I'm not sure the value and hope someone on the board can help. As you can see from the photo's, the original tube identifies the rod as an Orvis Fullflex Rod. On the back of the label Style: Fly Rod, Length 8 1/2 ft., Weight: 4 oz., For: Orvis GBF [8]. This information is also located on the rod in cursive writing. There is no serial number. Orvis Fullflex Rod 8 ½ ft, 4 oz. (1)The length of the rod when assembled: 8 ½ ft (2)the number of pieces that make up the rod: Two (3)if it comes with a second tip: No (4)are all the rod sections the same length: Yes (5)general condition use the conditon grading system listed below: Excellent (6)any information that is writen on the rod or stamped in the reel seat: See above (7)if it comes in a labeled bag and tube: Yes, tube is labeled, bag is white Thanks - Steve

Your rod is from the early-ish 70s. The rod blank itself was a Phillipson, but the components were provided by Orvis. I think Orvis may have assembled these in their shop, but I'm not positive. An Orvis Fullflex in great shape, 8½ foot length, for an 8 weight line will probably sell between $50 and $100 on eBay. If the rod has metal ferrules, you can expect to come in on the lower half of the range. If the rod has fiberglass ferrules, you may get to the upper half. The rod is a little long and heavy to garner much interest from most used tackle buyers. In general, graphite rods have supplanted fiberglass of this length and weight in the market. That is not to say you don't have a nice, high quality rod, you do. But the current market value of your rod isn't reflective of that quality. If you are a fly fisherman, I would recommend that you fish the rod rather than sell it. I would think your enjoyment of the family connection and use of the rod would outweigh any sales price. Of course, if you are not a fisherman then I would recommend eBay as your best sales option. Of course, with eBay odd prices can happen, both good and bad. Tom

I would think a rod of this length with a nice fullflex action would make a great rod for farm pond fishing, nice and easy for largemouth bass? Should be able to throw and maneuver any number of poppers and subsurface bass flies most easily. Phillipson made a fine fiberglass blank, and coupled with the definitive Orvis reel seat, it is a striking rod cosmetically. In my opinion it is a very good niche rod for the angler that would appreciate the manner in which it will fish. Bob

Personally, I love that length/weight rod, and would get a real thrill out of fishing such a fine tool. Let us know what you plan to do with it, Keith
