Picked this up on ebay (300230329719) last night in hopes it may have been made by Phillipson. Can anyone confirm or deny??
Thank you,

Lou,
It is hard to tell from the photos, but it appears to have a tip over butt glass ferrule. However it's not a sleeved tip over butt. I don't think it's a Phillipson. LL Bean didn't sell junk, so whoever made the rod it might be a pretty good deal. The look reminds me an eight foot Martin I have with a similar look. The Martin is a surprisingly nice rod to cast with a 6 weight line. Tom |

Thanks Tom...would have been pretty good to get a Phillipson for 40 bucks.

I'm pretty certain this rod was made by Cortland, or whoever made the Crown - or was it Pro? - models for Cortland. Same color blank, same ferrule, same
wraps, same case. The Cortlands sold for $20-$30 in the early 1970s.

Got the rod today. Not bad... flexes well into the butt. Actually, it "wiggles" much like my bamboo 7 1/2 4wt. Line recommendation printed on the rod
states 6. I tried both a 6wt and 5wt on the lawn...seems a bit faster with the 5wt and maybe more to my liking. The blank itself is nearly identical in color
and weave as the Sceptre rods we recently built, but again, much more flex (especially down into the butt) than the Sceptre. The ferrule is tip over butt...
doesn't appear that there's any more glass at that point on the female (tip) - just a 2 inch thread wrap. There's 6 guides plus the stripping guide
and tip top - no hook keeper. The grip is 6 inches (cigar) and the reel seat is a bronz colored aluminum (I think) with a winding check of the same material.
Nice looking rod and I'd say well worth the price. Won't get to try it on the water 'till next week, but looking forward to seeing how it handles
under fishing conditions. Markings on the rod: "L.L. BEAN", "6773 8'", "RECOMMENDED FOR LINE 6". Thread wraps appear to be
Chestnut with Cream tiping (Fenwick).
