While I appreciate the sentiment, I think we would be better off if everyone e-mailed Cortland and asked, "When, where, and how can I buy a Diamondglass rod?" Businessmen are more interested in customers than irate citizens. If Cortland feels there is a market, maybe they will put the rods back in production. But if we don't tell them with our opinions and our cash, then Diamondglass won't return.

Cortland made a big marketing push with the Diamondglass line a few years back. They sold a lot of stock to fly shops and mail order companies. In fact, the rods didn't sell enough to sustain the marketing (neither did the bargain priced Fenwick Fenglass line a couple years earlier). After a year or two the retailers dumped the overstock at near cost. As much as we dislike it, fiberglass is a niche market that simply can't compete with the likes of Sage and St. Croix. And Cortland isn't set up to operate in a small market model.

The last I heard, the Dglass equipment was in Cortland, NY. But it appears less and less likely that the equipment will be put back in service. If they don't set it up, I hope Cortland will sell the machinery to a small business entrepreneur at a scrap value price. Maybe someone else could bring back Diamondglass at a scale that fits the market.

By the way, their MOST famous product was the Diamondback graphite rods. They were probably the first actually good graphites made. Just try prying one of those from an owner!
