I live in central Oklahoma and fish eastern Oklahoma, Arkansas, Colorado and New Mexico occasionally. I'm also an avid Crappie fisherman and Upland Bird
hunter. I'm retired so now able to spend more time on these activities. Before I retired I lived in Colorado, Kansas and Texas. Fished lots in Colorado
in the 70's & 80's with a couple old Fenwicks. I only got out a couple of times in Texas but really enjoyed fishing there. I have old and new
fiberglass rods and enjoy them all. Finally joined Fiberglassflyrodders after reading info for some time. Appears to be a great group of people.

Floyd,
Welcome to the Fiberglass Flyrodders! There are a lot of us in the Heartland. You might want to try to get to the Glassic in Texas this October and see a lot of glass in one place. I'm glad you decided to join the discussions. Tom |

I am originally from Ohio and Pennsylvania, where I fished and hunted sorta along US route 6 from Linesville to Coudersport. My favorite water up there was
Blue Eye Run in Warren county. There are some super wild browns in that small creek. Back then I had a stable of evey big name fly rod (except G Loomis - I
liked that lifetime warranty) from an Orvis Superfine 1oz to a T&T HS907S each with a matching CFO (7 wt had a Redington AS). All very nice. When the
economy forced me south to the Atlanta suburbs, selling them off one at a time was a big help. Amazingly, except for the intro CFO3 disc I used the most, I
never lost a dime on any of them, and actually made money on several! They were all (except the 1oz) bought after they were the "discontinued" model,
and the reels came (mostly) from ebay before they went up in price. Like bulldog says, "the rods are never obselete..." Anyway, now my home water is
the Chattahoochee headwaters up in the north Georgie mountains, as well as smaller streams in the same area. Lots of tiny wild rainbows with a scattering of
browns here and there. So far my best fish has been one 19" brown (that was almost routine in PA). And now I fish mostly old glass and Medalists (still
have a Winston IM6 6wt for 'old time's sake') and enjoy it immensely. Cant wait to get my big Fenwick in action on local warmwaters. That will be
new for me. Btw I have every issue of Warmwater Fly Fishing that Abenaki publishers tried a few years ago... anybody out there remember that? I'm glad to
have found this site - it's been entertaining and helpfull - John

Sydney, Australia.
A year ago I lived in Adelaide, Australia (16 hour drive south west of Sydney). which is where I fell in love with small streams and formed the idea of using glass rather than graphite in my mad brain. Moved to Sydney to follow my dream of becoming a photographer, working as an assistant to David Anderson - Aussie celebrity photographer (not a real Aussie though - he has a distinctive American accent), and not coincidentally a fly fishing fanatic. He loves his glass too - might have to get him on here if he isn't already. |

I am lucky to live in the virginia trout mecca that is the shenandoah valley. Harrisonburg, VA. Love it here. I am 20 minutes to the famous spring creek mossy.
That place is mighty addicitive but the trout there are a pain in the butt most times. Hard to fool.
I mostly fish the shenandoah national park for native brookies. Small streams, native brookies, and a bend in the glass rod. That is my addiction. And it's only a 20 minute drive to get to them as well! |

I live in Kittanning PA which is 40 miles NE of Pittsburgh. I fish for trout in the local streams that are stocked (Buffalo Creek mostly). I go up to State
College PA on occasion for some wild trout and bigger waters. They are stocking the streams for fall fishing in a few days so I am really looking forward to
getting my newly acquired Fenwicks out. I am on this board everyday reading your posts, very thankful for this site. I consider all of you my fishing
buddies.

I live in South Eastern Idaho, about 5 miles from the South Fork of the Snake River. I prefer to fish moving water but I find myself on still water with a
pontoon. I fish nearly year around for both cold and warmwater fish. I'm as happy casting for 6-9 inch brookies as I am casting for 20-24" trout. I
fish glass, carbon and cane rods. I fish rods starting with a 4'8" carbon rod that casts treated backing. It works with half a 000 Sage QDT line
too. It is the perfect brookie rod for Idaho's cricks. I have a few Spey rods for the other end of the spectrum.
I have a small collection of glass and a few cane rods. You never know what I might pack to the stream...but if I happen to go with someone who starts bragging about their new Sage Z Axis or TCX, I'm just ornery enough to show up and fish with my South Bend or Browning SilaFlex or even an old Eagle Claw Trail Master, just to piss them off. Until a few years ago, I fished every kind of fishing rod. Now I own only fly rods. I started tying flies over 25 years ago and picked up my first fly rod at the same time.....not that you could tell from the looks of my flies or if you ever see my casting technique. I guess, I'm full of bad habits...but I don't care. ........'m happy. |

Hello everyone!
Most of my fishing time has been spent catching largemouth bass and bream in east Texas and Mississippi and I now live in St. Louis, MO and still prefer the warmwater species. I've never caught a trout but hope that will change soon. I don't own a glass rod yet but I'm having a 7' 3/4 Riffle blank built by a friend down in Texas. I'll post some pics/info when I get it. I've got a 5' Eagle Claw UL 'glass spinning rod that I'm thinking about converting to a little 1 piece fly thrower as a way of introducing myself to rod building. Thanks for the great forum. It's good to see some familiar 'faces' from the UL forum and Warm Fly.

I'm originally from a Suburb in between Cleveland and Akron. Have spent a lot of time fishing Northwest and North Central PA as well as the Adirondacks.
Love Little Sandy Creek near Franklin, PA. Fished the steelhead runs in between Cleveland and Erie as well.
I have a brother that lives in Boulder, CO and love to fish the small front range streams as well and looking forward to eventually get to the Catskills with my brother that lives in NYC. Now that I'm in Montana (been here since April of 08) I fish some of the obvious streams like the Gallatin, Madison, and the Yellowstone. I love fishing in Yellowstone National Park especially for the Yellowstone Cutthroats. There are so many small streams around here it almost makes your head spin. I fish my Winston B2x on the big water, but fish some bamboo on small streams as well as my 6'6" Lamiglass that I just built, which is my first experience with glass. Got a 14" Brookie on it the other day. Love this board and will be looking to aquire alot more glass. |
