Thanks Cameron! Yep, I'm one of them graphic dee-ziners. If you haven't been shoalie fishing, you need to go! The Flint and the Ocmulgee are well worth it.

The Midlands is just the area in the middle of the state. I live outside of Columbia. I've heard of rumors of good fishing for smallmouth on the Broad River...but haven't ever checked it out.

Hi,
Just joined ... I'm from the Chicagoland area, a western suburb. My first fly rod was and still have, a garcia conolon five star, 2404-A, aftma #6, 3 5/6 oz. rod. I bought it new many years, ago. It sat dormat for some 20 years. Started fly fishing again about 5 years ago. Built my first rod last winter, H&H 2wt. 6'6''. Currently, have fiour graphite rods, 2,4,5 and 8, along with this Conolon. (Searching for the right one!)The graphite rods are not expensive ones... Took out this long forgotten fiberglass rod last summer, and felt better than my others... A little heavier, but love the feel and action. Fish local ponds at business centers and parks, the Fox and Dupage rivers. Fish for bass and pan fish. Thinking about building my second rod. Would like to build a fiberglass, and need to keep the costs down.; Read some posts about using e-glass spinning blanks, forecast 6' spg720. Last fall, I picked up a kayak to enhance my fishing adventures. Also, tying my own flies for past 1 1/2 years. A little long winded. That's about it on my profile. Jim |

Jim,
Welcome to the Fiberglass Flyrodders! Considering how much time usually goes into building a rod, you might also wish to some of the Lamiglas blanks. The two piece rod blanks run in the $60 range. Depending on the model, either Mudhole or Angler's Workshop seem to have good prices. Quite a few nice rods have been built on the Batson blanks, especially if you are looking for a short 1 piece outfit. Tom |

Tom,
Thanks for the welcome and advice on the blanks. Sixty dollars vs. ten dollars means something for a guy who has six children with two in college..... With that said, i'll wonder over to those sites and take look. Jim |

Mansfield, TX, just south of Fort Worth. Fairly new to the board, but I've been reading for a while and considering jumping into the glass rod brotherhood, but I've not saved up enough for a new rod and don't know enough yet to venture off in the used rod world, so I better keep reading and learning!

DT,
Join us for the Glassic March 14-16 at the Nolan River near Blum. I'm sure you'll be able try out some rods there; in fact I know a couple of of who will be carrying a few extras. Les |

keebranch, thanks for the invitation. I've been reading all the posts and wondered about stopping in, but I didn't know what the "schedule of events" was going to be, other than hopefully chasing fish.

I am another Colorado guy. I live in a southern Denver suburb called Centennial, and I fish all over the map. A corny story; in 4th grade I pulled chicken feathers from a pillow, tied them to a bait hook with thread from mom's sewing basket, and colored them with Majic Marker. Tied my first fly, and caught bluegill with it back in Iowa. I still like to fish warm water. My favorite place to fish is the Arkansas River, same as Cofisher. Running a close second is: the Colorado, the South Platte, the North Platte, Tarryall Creek, Crystal Lake, Spinney Reservoir, 11 Mile Reservoir, Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR, Lost Creek, Delaney Buttes and Lake John. I fish for browns, brookies, rainbows and cutts, carp, northern pike, large and smallmouth bass, and the occasional bluegill. Colorado is a great place to be a fly fisher. OOps, I left out kokannee salmon...caught my first ones on a flyrod in the Dream Stream this fall.
Come on springtime!! I have some glass rods to try out. Wacokid54 (Dennis) |

Hey Dennis it really is nice to see another Co guy. I'm located in Superior/Louisville. I do love the Arkansas and the Colorado. Good day trips for me are to Clear Creek above Golden and above Idaho Springs And Bear Creek. We'll have to get together sometime.

wacokid54...cofisher wants you to take him carp fishing...but is to polite to ask. HA. He has a whole W&M arsenal of six and seven weights which would handle Colorado carp like a charm...but doesn't want to chase those "dirty fish". I think he is a little afraid he'll like it. HA...

Hundreds of monster carp congregate in the mud flats at the inlet to 11 Mile Reservoir in June. But, it is a mud flat, and I am a big guy. I actually wear snowshoes to keep from sinking in, and I wade out. I had a submarine nearly spool me on my 9 weight.
I have yet to tap the carp fishing in the South Platte right through Denver. That will change as soon as we get some warmer weather. Cofisher, do you have an 8 or 9 weight? Rocky Mountain Arsenal has some fun northern pike fishing...that would be an easy place to meet you. You need to sit through a 15 minute orientation, and it is best to do that a Bass Pro before opening day. As well, I have never tapped the fishing in Clear Creek, and would be glad to meet you there sometime. Carpe Diem Dennis |

Dennis don't listen to Cameron, he thinks carp are brain food.
Carps don't live in pretty places.

Follow this link to the website for the Arsenal. Check with them in late April to see if they are doing early orientations offsite. Lots of good wade water for pike.

Dennis the link didn't show up, but I'll check online. I have a buddy that fishes out at the arsenal as well. Thanks

I'm in Ashland, MA, about 30 miles west of Boston. Most of my fishing is in warm water from a float tube. I do live an area with some very productive lakes
and reservoirs.
Last summer I did catch a 15 3/4 inch smallmouth in Lake Sunapee, NH. I caught it on the surface on a brown ant using a Fenwick 6' 5wgt., Woodstream series. This fish bent the rod from tip to butt and made me a believer in fiberglass rods. What a rush!!! Anxiously waiting for the weather temperature to reach my age, Glicky |

I'm way past due to post on this thread. I live in Limaville Ohio, and I'm lucky to have good fishing right here at home. I have a decent creek that
runs through my back yard thats full of bluegill and a few other species of panfish. I also have a reservoir just down stream from from me, I can float down on
the creek or walk to it. I also have two other reservoirs I can fish that are less than 10 minutes drive from the house. I used to fish for Ohio steelhead a
lot but in recent years haven't been able to go. I also used to fish a few western PA streams for trout quite a bit. I'm primarily a panfish guy but I
love PA brookies and Ohio smallmouth as well.

Hello All-
I am probably one of the few DEEP Southerners here. I have lived in the community of Acadiana (more commonly known as "Cajun Country") in South Louisiana my entire life. Although it doesn't have the beauty of a Montana or Colorado trout stream, it does have a beauty all it's own. The Atchafalaya basin contains several good panfish (bream) and bass lakes, with Lake Henderson being of primary interest. A levee was built around Lake Henderson in the early 1900's to protect local communities from flooding when the river would rise. This resulted in great trenches being formed around Lake Henderson, from where the workers dug the soil to create the levees. Eventually, inlets were cut from Lake Henderson into these trenches, creating what is now known as the "Levee pits". They vary from 2-15 or more ft. deep, and have come to provide great spawning beds for Bluegill, Largemouth Bass and other panfish. Fishing on foot, this place has always been heaven to me. The pits are lined with ancient Cypress and Oak trees, and are a brilliant green in the spring and summer. To be there on an early summer's morning and watch the sun rise over the lake is an experience approaching religious. I will never leave South Louisiana. |

Western Mass- Northampton to be exact. Fish the Westfield and Housatonic Rivers pretty regularly, the Deerfield occasionally, and the Upper Connecticut and
Androscoggin (both in NH) every summer for a few weeks vacation. In between I hit the many little brookie streams in the Connecticut and Housatonic drainages
(for which I've just finished building my first glass rod- Lamiglas Honey 6'6" 3wt, 2 piece). Can't wait to get out in the next few weeks.
