it's a Pridex marked for and imported by Herter's.
Nice size. The rumors that it was given away with a tackle set inside automobiles bearing the same name are exactly as accurate as the rumors about Indian reels and motorcycles. |

Less than $30? Isn't that a felony? |

Re: Cortland Reel | ||

Anybody know anything about this Cortland reel?
I found this reel in a box (along with others) while straighting up my Garage. It's a full cage reel with a click drag (non adjustable). It's got dual pawls which appear to be made out of a plastic of some sort. There's a label on the back side of the reel that says Cortland, made in England. ![]() ![]() Time is precious. Waste it wisely!

I think you'll find the same reel several pages back on this thread.
It was made by BFR. |

felony? | ||

I meant to post less than fifty bucks, but it is gorgeous and more than worth it. Yes, it might be a felony alright, but one I don't feel guilty about. However, I don't know if I will fish it or sell it. Now tht is a problem.

Re: felony? | ||

Love the young reels, only problem for me is that winding knob is made to fit the fingers of right hand wind on most of them and feels little strange with left hand if try fitting fingers into handle groves.

scud dog said:The new Quest II sounds like crap. Large arbor, disc drag; resin (won't rust like metal). Sounds like the modern incarnation of the Shakespeare Alpha. Can anyone name a reel that's crappier than the Alpha?
I just recieved a package with a Shakespeare Alpha 2531. This is a 1495 Medalist clone. Did shakespeare make both reels at the same time? This was made in Japan and the shaft is just enough larger that a 1495 spool wont fit it. |

I was just reading this thread again and figured I would bump it back to the top since it took me a while to find it.
Here is a pic of my fenwick world class 2. Is a great reel for larger trout or smaller steelhead. Holds a dt 5 through a wf 7 well. Russell ![]() ![]()

Nothing special here but I got a couple of these Edwards Manufacturing No.30 reels which work great on my short 1wt and 3wt rods. They're light and
about 2 7/8" dia.

OK, at the other end of the spectrum, I'm throwing up a lightweight beauty, Hardy JLH Ultralight 2/3/4
one of those ebay buys I couldn't pass up and really love this little reel. Smooth, extremely light.
the rods are never obsolete - the marketing is.

I recently purchased a really nice reel on E Bay that I am enjoying. It is a Pflueger Supreme and is very light. All of the models in the Supreme series were
disc drag reels EXCEPT for the smallest one, #1834, which is click/pawl. The Supreme series was discontinued, probably due to design problems in the disc drag.
The consumer reports that I read on line described the drag material disintegrating, in some cases during the first use. This little click/pawl reel is working
great, and the drag system works very well. The reel feels solid with no "wonkiness" at all. My only beef is that the drag adjustment has no start
and finish position; it turns a full 360 so it takes a little while to get used to where the minimum and maximum drag settings are. I have 1/2 of a 5 wt DT
line with some backing; enough for average sized trout or warm water fish. It is the lightest reel that I have at 3.2 ounces; lighter than my EC10 or the
Cortland Embassy. I don't know if it is my favorite reel, but I really like it. I have other reels that I like, but am hoping someday to get one of the
green Orvis CFO III or IV disc drag reels, made in England. I'm guessing that might be my favorite. -Roy

RE click pawl reels: I have an STH airweight #8 that cost me $175.00 with a spare spool and two 8 wt. flylines. It has the best cick drag of any of my
reels. I have a Hardy Marquis 5 wt. and a Hardy Flyweight that just about goes supersonic when a large fish runs with it. I also have a Compac 330 which looks
to me to be one of the Hardy clones. It looks the same as the Eagle Claw reels I saw on here before, even the same colours. For a low priced reel the drag is
very good as well as the fit of it's part's. I also have a Daiwa 708 I found new in the box for $20.00. It is the same reel as one of the old System
One's.
