That is a good sheet on the MG 9, Middlemac. But darn it, it still doesn't tell what "MG" stands for.

Checklist (updated 8-3-09 | ||
|
It would be helpful to have a checklist of posted papers pinned to the beginning of this discussion.
A list of reels in order of posting- and cross-referenced by manufacturer- would help steer folks to available papers, and at nine photo-heavy pages of papers and counting, save time and help us avoid reposts. I can make the list but not anytime soon as I have several ongoing board commitments. If anyone wants to take it on and is willing to make occasional updates, give me a PM and I'll help out with getting it pinned to the appropriate place. UPDATE- I believe we have a volunteer to do the legwork and post the cross-referenced checklist. Thanks! Yr faithful Projects Coordinator,

I always figured MG stood for My Gosh!!!
Guess these days it would be the OMG series.

The paperwork that came with a Strikeright Wonderflo reel. I don't have a date for it, but there is a patent number that could be researched.

Scored a Farlow's catalogue this week.
The condition is exceptional, with nice tri-foldouts (think Playboy for flycasters) of their bamboo rods, and a price list dated July 1951 (that's eight months before Yours Truly was born, btw). 28 pages, smallish format (8-1/4" x 5-1/4"). The price list is 12 pages, 7" x 4-1/2". Here's my 3" Grenaby posing alongside the illo. The cost back then was 2 pounds, 12 shillings 6 pence
Back cover ("Half an hour with Mr. Farlow an important preliminary..." you're not gonna get that at Bass Pro Shop... ). And are those actually looped lines strung in the front window?

Reels (including some open-face, level-line and spinning)
Line offerings
Assorted goodies for the well-appointed gentleman angler

Keep 'em comin', folks!

I like the Farlow's catalogue. We need more of these. Has anyone got a Milward's one of similar vintage? Regards, Doc |
