Not sure if this post should be in here or 'Tackle Tinkering' but it's an old un-named red agate that I would like to bring back from the dead and
turn into a user reel. Needless to say I picked it up on the cheap.
The reel has a number of problems.
It showed up with two different sized springs and I don't believe either of them were the correct size - and then one of them broke whilst trying to remove it. The posts these springs wrap around have a washer at the top of them and they are both bent like crazy from someone jamming oversized springs under them - hence my breakage removing them. Correct size piano wire on the way but I sure would like to find a source for flat spring stock small enough to use on reels.
The cage is cracked through in one spot. JB Weld for this I think.
The agate is cracked but it is still all there and feels smooth. Is there a coating of some kind I can put on it any way to protect my flyline?
At some point in its life this reel was repainted - poorly as there are a few bubbles here and there. I'm gonna strip it and then decide what to do.
The pawl is decent and the gear is showing some wear, but still usable.
Good points? No wobble, good foot and handle, spool release functions fine - that's about it...heh heh...
