I've been reluctant to post this on top of Tiptop's beautiful Gypsy build but things seem to have died down so here it is. Anyway, I picked up this
mint 8' Ted Williams in a Newport, RI antique shop last week. The rod case had an old Sears price sticker of $20.95 stuck on it that the clerk
unfortunately pulled off before I could stop her. I had it out in the yard and it casts a DT6 and WF7 very nicely and even today seems a capable fly rod. To
me it looks like a pimped late 60's Wonderod.

Sweet looking rod thanks for sharing those pics. Funny the note 'light action' and 7 weight on the rod. |

Luv that mylar! I've got a couple of mylar wrapped Fenwicks from the early 60's that I love the looks of. Don't know that I'd do that to a
new rod, but to me it's a nice vintage touch.

tiptop wrote:I like the mylar accents too. When I was restoring my W+M Featherlight last Winter, and looking for tips on working with mylar; a few people mentioned that Alex (flytackle) has used it on some of his builds. I sure wish he'd post a few pics/examples. Would be neat to see...

the rods are never obsolete - the marketing is.

Only a little ostentatious!

The mylar sure gives a rod a definite period look. I love it.
Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time. |
