Long story short what are the very best reels today for say 10-15 years. Both as an investment and as a pure fishing reel.
Honestly I think its exactly the same as it is today. Why, two sections, collecting for an investment and pure using pleasure.
Here a while back a member posted pictures of an exceptional custom made bamboo rod. Frankly I carrried that quest a bit farther and ordered one`of exceptional quality.
That order sent me to fly reels. The rod is bamboo, for shame, what the heck, I have bamboo, glass and graphite, I think each has it place in my fishery.
Ok moving along, what reel to put on a custom made rod.
Know what the same problem has been around for around 200 years. A fly fisherman wants an exceptional reel for his exceptional rod.
Who?
Hardy
So after asking several members, hell did you know that Hardy has went offshore to Korea? and that the original English made reels are collectables?
Oh well.
I proceeded on two fronts, first questioning members on both the original English made Perfects and Bougles and then on the currrent manfactures.
Enough said.
I ended up buying all the current sized Korean made Bougles, from 3 inch to 3 1/2 inch, also all the currently available English made special production models. Yes alot of money. Also looking at the last of the English made late production Perfects. Simply put after alot of consideration I felt these reels are of such exceptional construction and collecability that I needed to move on them.
Anyway while Im not looking for buying, I just wanted to post a link that I can post pictures of my Hardy's they are just so well made I think members would like to see more. They are all part of Hardy's best.

By the way the Korean Hardy Bougles are of excellent quality, Ive set here and played with both the English made and Korean made versions and can see no fault in either.
