Let me preface this by saying I'm not an Orvis hater... or lover. They are a decent company with excellent customer service (in my experience). However it is incorrect to say "Orvis has survived the Civil War, WW1, Great Depression, WW2, and too many recessions and calamities to count..." They have not. Orvis, as we know it now, has been in continuous operation since 1964 when Perk Perkins purchased the company for $400,000. He made profound changes, keeping only the name and focus on fishing and wing shooting as the foundation for his company. It's incorrect to imply they have a longer history than that, much in the same way it's incorrect to assume that the Marantz stereo gear you buy today has ANY relationship to Saul Marantz or the Marantz company he started. The name's the same, the company is completely different.

As to egregious catalogization, my prize goes to Sierra Trading Post. One purchase from them and you can wallpaper your house with the promotional stuff they'll send... It just goes to show that if they keep asking "will you buy it now?" that eventually the answer will be "yes" - if only to make the pain stop.
