I'm trying to find a glass stick for small streams. I'd like as light a rod weight as I can find (0-2wt.). Anyone know of a rod maker who does something like that?
Thanks

I think Scott's Fibertouch series includes a 1 and a 2 weight.Both Steffen and McFarland make 2 wt. rods.

I'd like to see someone come out with a zero in glass, but for now I think it's a two.

Mike,
beautiful rods! How close could you get to 1 wt in the EGlass? That green color is super sexy! |

Sorry but the eglass bottoms out at 3/4 wts. The Lamiglas bottoms out at 2/3 wts. I can custom paint The lamiglas blanks(or any for that matter) that green
color. If I can be of service to you LMK.
Thanks for the compliment on my work. |

Glass on carbon scrim blanks down to #2 here. Company has a good reputation but I don't know what this range is like. There are US distributors

Brookbum,
I like a lot of the rods already listed. Just adding to the list... Hardy has a 2wt. + a pair of 3wts. Diamondglass use to make a 2wt. and three different 3wts. (if you can find them). South Fork has a 6'6" #2 and 6'6" #3 in E-glass and Kettle Creek Tackle Shop has 3/4s ranging from 5'10" up to 7'6". I also recall a place in New England that offers some 4pc. 2's and 3's. Blue blanks/red wraps/silver tipping...? Does anyone recall the name? There's also lots more choices if you don't mind the exchange rates between the US and Japan. |

Scud,
What are some of the Japanese names I should look for? Right now I'm really leaning toward Steffen Bros.. They're so pretty and highly regarded. |

Brookbum, I don't think you could do better than one of the Steffen rods. I think they make several short 1/2 weights. As for Japanese rods, the Axisco
Arrite 6'6" rod might be nice in a 2 weight. I have never cast one but the Axisco Arrite 7' 3 weight is one of the sweetest little rods I have
ever owned. They are however 6 piece pack rods which might not be what you are looking for.

brookbum,
Welcome to the Fiberglass Flyrodders! If you are rod shopping, have you seen the Wiki yet? Mark Steffen makes a 1/2 weight and a 2/3 weight in several lengths. Mike McFarland now has a 2 weight in his rod lineup. And you can still get a Diamondglass 7 foot, 3 weight, 3 piece rod from Cortland. Scott makes a 1 weight and a 2 weight, but rumor has it both are more of a light 3 weight. The New England company Scud Dog is trying to remember is Great Bay. Joe Cornwall and crew included the Great Bay SFT664-2 in their Great 2-Weight Shootout, a comprehensive review of 2 weight rods (graphite and glass) coming real soon now on Fly Fish Ohio. Other two weights covered in the Shootout include the Hardy 5 foot, 2 piece Aln and the South Fork 6'6", 2 piece. There are a number of offerings in Japanese glass that would probably fit your description too. I have the most experience with the Quiet Loop line of rods, which were recently discontinued. There is a VF662, 6'6", 2 weight offered on our For Sale forum. I have the VF663, a 6'6", 3 weight and I think it is a very nice rod. There is also a VF663 available on Yahoo Japan, but by the time you get it here, a Steffen or McFarland will be less money. Another discontinued, and potentially hard to find rod, would be the Tenryu Benett 7 foot, 2 weight. There are some excellent, and currently available Japanese rods too. Axisco makes a well regarded 6'6", 6 piece 2 weight (buy it from Blue Dun). Norie makes some 2 weights in their Flex Taylor line. Studio Thinline makes a couple of beautiful looking 2/3 weight rods. If you are willing to look at 3 weight rods, there is a huge selection of Japanese glass, including the Tiemco made Fenwicks, more Norie rods, Takada, North Country Angler, Studio Thinline, and the Tiemco Bushmasters. Tom,
Wow that's a lot of information! Thanks! The Steffen Bros. 1/2 6' two piece is so sexy, I almost can't resist it's charm. And you can't beat the price for a blank. |
