That is indeed a zero.

Have a 2 with spare spool and cannot quite get into the place of selling it. I even have an extra spring.

I love the Colorado series -I have all but the CO2. When a fish is on it's an opportunity to "palm it it in".

Hi Grouch,
Nice picture shot!! I too love the Colorados!!! The drag is excellent and you don't even have too worry about. Seems just right to me when playing a fish. Matt |

First post here for me. Great thread. I'm currently building a new 3 wt for back packing and have been looking for a click pawl reel to go with it. I was
leaning toward a Hardy Featherweight or possibly a CFO II or something along those lines. Now I have a much better idea of some more economical alternatives.
Thanks for that!!

Randall Dee - try a SA System 4 or Hardy Marquis 4 (1/2 the price of Featherweight and CFO)... or the clones... ie. Heddon 300(1/2 price of the Marquis). With
the Heddon or other clones, I recommend picking up the Hardy "A" kit (pawls and springs), when the "Hardy Fairy" comes, those clones are
smooth.

Fred........thanks for the suggestions. I've would love a Marquis, as I use to own a Salmon No.3 up until a few months back, as I've been re-vamping my
spey set ups. But the ones I've seen sell on ebay seem to go for as much as the CFO's and Featherweights. I'll keep looking and check out the
clones you suggested. Thanks............

Randell Dee,
Welcome to the Fiberglass Flyrodders! What 3 weight rod are you building? I use Bass Pro White River Classic ULs for my 3 weight lines. Small, light, and well made. And the price isn't too bad either. Check out this Fly Fish Ohio review for more details. Tom |

jgestar............thanks for the warm welcome. I'm afraid the blank is nothing too romantic. It's a no name generic 8', IM8 blank that is rated as
a 3/4 wt.
As I said, I've really enjoyed this thread. Lot's of very cool reels. I like the JW Young Jubilee. Some one else then mentioned a J. Austin Forbes Avon comparing to it and I see one on ebay with a claimed weigh of 2.7 oz @ 2.5". I know a reel that size is probably on the lower end for a 3/4 weight but I like the sub 3 oz weight for the backpacking application. I also like the Bronson Royal 360 as an economical alternative. Can anyone tell me, will all 360's be the same size diameter and how much they might weight?

The Bass Pro reel is 2.2 ounces, empty. About as light as an all metal reel will get. You will fit a WF3 line and a smidge of backing on there. The Avon is
probably very similar capacity.
The Royal 360 is a much bigger reel. I have a very similar Bronson 370 that is about 4 oz, very light for it's day and line capacity. But that reel will need a LOT of backing to match with a 3 or 4 weight line. That backing will add a lot of weight to the setup. The Bronsons can easily hold a DT6 line and 100 yards of backing. the 360 is a very simple, single-action, single clicker reel.
It's light (maybe 3.5oz. or so?), but it's size is better suited for a DT5 or even DT6. the 370 is my most-used reel for my 7'0"-8'0" 6wt. rods. It's light, has loads of capacity, and it's chestnut-brown to almost maroon coloration goes great with most vintage rods. (I've got it matched with a 7'6" Orvis Fullfex lately, and it's as if they were sold as a set they match so well...) for a good and inexpensive 3/4 wt click pawl reel. think about maybe a Diawa 730?

That Brass Pro reel at 2 & 5/16" seems a bit on the small side in my mind for the 3/4 weight that I have. I think it might be better suited for a
shorter (less than 8') 2 to 3 weight, at least in my mind but maybe not. I have a Marado Evolution 124 and I put it on the new rod. Balance is OK, but I
would like to find something close to 2.75" and preferably less than 3.75 oz. I do appreciate the suggestions!!

Off the top of my head, here's some other nice light reels that may be worth a search on Ebay: Redington CT; JA Forbes; Orvis Battenkill (The older powder
coat grey ones) and Marryat.

I have two Cabelas Cahill 0 click paw reels and a bunch of spools. Someone told me they were a Hardy or Orvis copy. I don't know. hey fit well on my 2wt
and 3/4 wts.
I also use a Scientific Angler SA1 789, that gets a workout on Steelhead/ Salmon. Mike |

I like the Hardy-made Orvis CFOs best, although I also use a Hardy Featherweight. The problem with the Hardy's is that you can't palm them because of
the caged construction.

P,
The UL Classic is back (see this Bass Pro catalog page). They only serve it up in black and the price increased to $110. Still, it's a decent deal even at that price. On very rare occasion they show up on eBay. Tom |
