Anyone have any thoughts on the new Hardy Glass rods? I was looking into the 7'5" "the test" rod. It looks like a nice rod, but performance? Thanks in advance.

I have the Test, my first non-cheapo rod. I feel like it knows just what I want it to do. Casts like a dream. It's got enough power to cast as far as
I've ever wanted it to, but is still soft enough for the feel I like. It's everything that I wanted and I could justify paying a fair amount more for
it than I did. It's wonderful. My suggestion: Buy it.

...I don't own one but I've fished one ...WOW! ...for a 7.5' 4 wt. I think Hardy got this one dialed in. It is smooth and delicate but not wimpy
and has hidden power down low just in case for that freakish hook up. An excellent all arounder for the creek and small to mid size stream angler. If you are
not looking for a custom built rod this one is going to be tough to beat. It's a true winner.... But that's just me. Happy Testing,

I've cast the 7'6" Test and really, really liked it. However, have a couple in that weight and length so bought the 7' 3wt. Stream instead.
That being said, I would highly recommend the Test you won't be disappointed.

The water is getting low enough for me to start fishing my new 7' #3 "Stream". I've already fished it a little bit and am eager to fish it
more. So far, I really like it. One of our fellow board members has cast my rod, the 8' #5 and the "Test". He thinks the "Test" is the
best of the three he's cast and felt Hardy got it all right with that blank.
Now, I'm gonna try to describe it. I never cast the "Test" I can give you an opinion on the "Stream" though. It's light in hand, similar to a Steffen Bros. It has a longer grip that my small handed buddy doesn't like. I have a large hand. The grip is comfortable to me. I also like the reel seat. It'll lock in most any reel with no issues. It's faster than E-glass and has graphite in it. However, it's NOT as fast the current Scott Fibertouch. It also flexes deeply while casting it and while playing a fish. |
