My Old Buddy gave me some more G-E blanks with the usual caveat that I build him one. One is a 9' #9, two are 7' with two tips marked "L" and
"M", and one blank that is mismatched 8'6 butt section and a 9' tip section that he says makes a nice #11. With a 3" fighting butt it
will even out the sections, though I really don't like fighting butts, I do like the idea of an 11 weight.
The 7 footers are a mystery to me and also to him. He thinks that the "M" tip was for spinning but he wasn't sure. Anyone have an old Orvis catalog that would shed some light on these blanks? I wonder why there wasn't a third tip marked "H"? I'm going to build both tips for a fly rod and see what they end up being.
I wish that Orvis would have made the Golden Eagles a more pleasant color like the full flexes maybe. That snot green is not very pretty.
