I know someone that's uncovered two like-new vintage Lami blanks. They're 7'6", 2pc. and rated as a #5. These are transluscent amber and have
dark brown spigot ferules. I want to do the right thing and offer him a fair price. What's fair?

SD,
Do they have a model number? From your description, they may be S-glass blanks. I would figure $50-70 each if they are in good shape and not scratched up (most blanks get scuffed with storage). Tom |

No scuffs Tom. These blanks are really clean. The only marks are from some old masking tape used to hold the tip and butt sections together. There's also
some surgical tape on the open ferule ends. Sidebar: what do you use to remove the old tape marks?

Those are Lami's nice blanks from the70's, do they have the "LTD" label on em?? I have several of those rods made from those blanks, the
spigots on mine are hollow, and they are nice, I do not recall if they are S-glass, I know Lami was pretty good about labeling "S-glass" rods as
such.
I'm with Tom, $50 bucks would be a fair deal for buyer and seller. |

Hello.
The best thing for safe tape residue removal rubbing alcohol . As far as price goes the blanks sold for around 14 bucks when new 1975 ish. That's $56.71 in 2009 using the inflation calculator. You are not leaving much for the rarity of the blanks. I would say Toms high end of $70.00 is more of a fair price. If you had a couple of dozen I would be interested. The clear almost see through blanks Ive used were all S glass and so marked. Amoung some of the very early blanks there was the 75, which later became the 1761
and was rated at 4wt, these blanks have a fine weave to the glass, and could be had in semi transparent and painted versions, I have a similiar rod based on
the 8ft 1801 blank which is also a true 4wt, fantastic rods too. A bit later the opaque painted blanks came along, I have several of those, smooth and with the
Lami glass ferrules, if yours is one those it should have had the Lami logo with the model number 1761. Finally of the early blanks if yours is a semi
transparent deep dark honey brown, with spiral tape wraps left unsanded, with the full Lami logo the model should be FL915S.
If the weather is clear tomorrow I will try and get pictures of each of the above glass styles and Logo's etc along with the changes in glass ferruling and get them posted. Perhaps with no info on the blanks you will be able to identify yours by seeing mine. They are all outstanding blanks by the way. Depending on which you have I think Toms evaluation should cover the price range for the length and line weight you have. However they would be worth a bit more if they had the Lami Logo and model number on the blank from the factory. Richard First Blank is my oldest, its a honey colored 1803 8wt not the Logo
Again another hollow glass ferrule

Mine have no decals and as far as I know...they may be anything. However; I trust the source. He wouldn't have claimed Lamiglas as the maker if he
wasn't sure. They look like your 8181, 11 pics down. They have dark spigots too.

FFFG,
Thanks for the photos of the Lami blanks. I find them very reminiscent of "River Rat Rods" that I had in the the early 70's. Very translucent, just as your photos show, but they had an extremely thin walled spigot. They were wonderful casting/fishing rods very accurate, with a full flexing progressive action, mine fractured at the ferrule (the hollow spigot portion fractured), on the 7' 5wt I had. Those Lami blanks look like their spigot ferrules are beefier. I wouldn't mind procuring a 7' or 7.5' blank or two, myself. Great rods, I'm envious, I'd love to give them a test drive. Scud dog, I hope your blank is like the ones FFFG has pictured. If so you could be building a gem of a rod. Good luck, let us see the results. As to a fair price Tom probably has it pegged pretty close, 50 to 75. Both of you congratulations on your finds, Respectfully rvreclus

I have to agree, if he's gotten himself a couple of S glass blanks and they are rated 5wt, thats pretty much the cream of the vintage crop. Too bad they
don't have their Lamiglas logo's that would add alot to their value, those are most likely a pair of the hardest to find blanks today. Do keep us in
the loop should you build them.

I'll post some pictures tonight of my Lamiglas SFL905S (7'6"-#5) s-glass blank... If you need some measurements, to help ID the blanks, just let me know. If you have the same blanks, they are rare and you got a deal. Fred |

Fred,
Mine are a match to your bottom pics. The ones I have a super clean, except for where masking tape was used to hold the two pieces together. |
