In short I like it, should make an outstand reel for a 3-4wt rod.

3 inch Milards made for Gladding circa ? |

Well heres a stumper for me, this is a Blued Aluminum Machined Milwards of England made for Gladding Circa? its 3inches in Diameter and frame to frame 7/8
inchs. The entire frame sans the detachable foot and the entire spool is blued, yes blued, blued aluminum, very well polished before the bluing and it appears
to have been machined from Aluminum Barstock. In addition the check is flipable, it came RHW and a simple flip of the Pawl turned it into LHW, very soft on the
return, very good Hardy like tension on the pay, so does anybody know anything about this little reel, its pretty light as you can see by the machine cuts its
been machined and as you can see by the polishing, it was a high luster finish and still is in most places.
In short I like it, should make an outstand reel for a 3-4wt rod. Richard

Hi Richard, I can't answer your question, but that sure is a purty reel.
Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time. |

Richard,
That will make a classic UL reel-I'd like to see it mounted on your HI Queen Elizabeth. Les |

the expert on these is Flyman615 on Clark's board, but quashnet should know something about these reels, as well
http://quashnet.clarksclassicflyrodforum.yuku.com/ I believe they were sold by Payne in the 60s.
the rods are never obsolete - the marketing is.

Thank you everybody, the background reseach is dead on, you have told me just about everything about this little reel Ive wanted to know. And I agree with
those that have tried one, its exceptional. So its not for sale at least for a couple of generations, as is most of my collection. Having a son into fishing
and fly fishing and four grandsons, I dought this reel will get anything but loving care and alot of fishing over the next 50 or so years. Its exceptionally
nice to find out at least a little about it. The reels machining is excellent and finish too, so its gonna be an adult reel for my myself and son and grandsons
where they are old enough.
Ive a couple of early Grisly fenwicks and yellow fenwicks that are rated 7ft 4-5wt IM wanting to fish it with and yes that special H I at four wieght too. This has already been set aside as a special reel, just because its so unique. While its not mint in a box its very close and it works oh so well, I put it into LHW and its just as good as it was in RHW. I dont think its seen any days on a rod, the foot is totally unmarked. Thanks guys this for me at least is a real find, its just that good. I'll fish this one, my son will and my grandsons, its a keeper! Richard

I certainly agree that this is a great little reel - Bulldog graciously outfitted mine with a Young Pfoot to better fit a few rods I fish. Enjoy!
