Check out this link to Midcurrent and scroll down to
the "Stuck Ferrules" section. That has always worked for me.

A couple of ice cubes in my hands, held against the offending glass or graphite ferrule for a minute or two has always worked for me. It gives me another
reason to always have a cooler of beer in the trunk. The beer helps to calm me down if the ice trick doesn't work.
Here's a tip that can help for the future, IF you remember to do it: The only time I have ever had stuck ferrules is when I started fishing really early in the am on a day when it gets really hot in the afternoon. I assume it is because the ferrules are cold when I first join the rod in the morning, and hot when I attempt to take it apart later in the day. On days like that, I will loosen and re-set the joints later in the day when it gets warmer. Of course I can't be positive this works since I have no way of knowing for sure if the ferrules would get stuck if I didn't do it, but it makes sense to me and I never had a ferrule stick IF I remembered to do it under the fishing conditions described. Obviously another solution is to fish until dark when it gets cooler. Some folks will recommend waxing spigot ferrules to prevent this from happening at all but wax attracts grit and grit prematurely wears ferrules. I was advised against waxing spigots by at least one rod manufacturer so I don't wax any of them. Mark Steffen may have a different opinion. Good luck! FUBO |

Last time this happened to the spouse, we hauled it back to the motel room, and gave the female end a good once/few times over with the hair dryer. With both
of us pulling a perfectly straight as possible, the parts came right apart.
