Phil Baldacchino, the maker of Riffle Rods would like to know YOUR thoughts. He's considering a third color for the glass blanks. He already offers a
gloss and matte bamboo color. Describe your color and if you'd prefer a glossy or matte blank. You could also use the color background bar to show a color:

Phil is also interested in knowing what kind of pack rods you'd like. Would you want a 3pc., 4pc., 5pc., etc.? What lengths and
line weights? He'd design all the rods with a dual line designation so list it as such.

I would like to see a 4 pc, 8 foot 4/5 weight and a 4 piece 8 foot 3/4 weight. Gloss Dark brown would be a wonderful color to have. In fact, the color of
phil's graphite would be great.

I'd opt for an 8'2" #4/5, 3pc. and for colors I'd go glossy with a light to medium brown or possibly a burgundy:

I'd be partial to an olive-green blank color.
Similar to a GC Wulff, but maybe a little less drab of a hue: .............................................. .............................................. My advice would be for Phil to continue to set his rods apart in some way (like he did with the non-glare bamboo tan) The browns, reddish-browns, and deep reds are just to commonplace, IMO. as for pack-rod configuration maybe a 6'6" 4/1 3-4wt.? Depending upon optimal taper/action, that 6'6" could waiver 3" either way... or # of sections might work better as a 3/1?

Lack of multi-piece options is the only thing holding me back on trying a riffle
30" tube for flight luggage, 24" tube for hardcore backpacking I'd love to see 4-piece blanks with options in the 7'6 -8'6 range for lines # 3/4-5/6, and 3-piece in the range 6'6-'7' for #3/4 I'm partial to a soft sheen finish in golden olive Mark |

A light to medium olive green is really nice. Mark, above, is right on with the golden olive! I also love the warm, caramel color of flamed bamboo, and the
rich brown of the old J. Kennedy Fisher glass rods is gorgeous. Wrap colors have to be complimentary, not garish or gaudy. Nothing makes a rod look more like a
cheap, crappy K-Mart special than cheap glitter and sparkly wraps. I can't stand the NASCAR look in fishing rods. Length wise, 7 to 8.5 feet, 4 to 6
weights, and 4 or 5 piece rods would be great. Portability is the main thing these days with the restrictions on air travel, ect.

8 ft -- 5 wt -- 4 pc --- With a crisper action than the Lami 5 wt--- Something that breaks down to about 24-26 inch sections --
As for color, I like the olive idea as well -- Most any color would be great, but flat black is a little to graphite looking. Tell Phil we would look forward to it !! Mudd |

If a color that looks good with a candy-apple red wrap is desired, then a brown colored blank is what is best. Recent photos of one of the Gypsy Rod
Company's rods have convinced me of this.

The Conolon Wulff series greens have always been a favorite of mine, gets my vote, second top left, last left, depending on the base color of the blanks, the
originals were tabbacco brown blanks and it was a thin baked on paint coat, often you could see the blank pattern into the green paint coating in a bright
light

I like the first set of colors scud picked, especially the burgundy. That's a classic glass color. One of the things I don't like about the Diamondback
glass rods is that they look just like graphite rods, along with those decals that they used too.

I agree with golfswithwolves on the brown blank with ruby wraps. Winston Retros are somewhat like that and look great to my eye.

I'm surprised Phil is putting this much effort into doing more rods. I'm glad he's doing it, but when I visited him up in PA and bought a rod from
him last summer, I got the feeling that he was burned out and wasn't into it anymore. Heck, he barely wanted to open the shop up for me until I told him I
drove up from Virginia.

I remember reading on an old riffle post that 4-piece blanks were available in #3/4 lengths 7'2" and 7'9".
Are they? Either way, can I suggest a forum launch of whatever comes out of this post with 'how to buy' details, perhaps with details of some of the unique reel seats I hear Phil has. Mark |
