As you can see, when we arrived the sky was blue and it looked like we would have plenty of company. Unfortunately, with gale force winds, I wasn't able to get more than 100' from shore.
We fought the winds for about an hour and decided to move on to somewhere a little more accommodating-Crystal Lake outside of Leadville. Wacokid still has a smile on his face because we both figured that our luck could only get better.
When we arrived at Crystal we found the skies overcast, ditched the belly boats and waded in. Crystal is a beautiful little lake that is populated by beautiful chunky rainbows. And look at that beautiful sky!

Nice bend in Waco's Conolon rod! I managed to land one as well. (Sorry my photographer was busy.) The rainbows were raising sporatically and we never did find out what they were eating. We were using an unusual looking foam ant pattern that Waco has had sucess with.
The winds kicked up and you can see a storm approaching fast. Wind and snow was the order of the rest of the day. Dennis did manage to catch several more rainbows. The colors were the most spectacular I had ever seen. Unfortunately you can't really tell from the photos.
A few parting words. I fished my Orvis Fullflex A with a Battenkill reel. Bulldog, the Fullflex is a dream and I love it. I didn't get to use it much because the drag on the Battenkill didn't work and the reel was freespooling. The other rod I used was a 1985 WM Sweetheart (7) and an Orvis Streamline reel. I'll have to reserve judgement on the rod until I can cast it again but I wasn't teribly impressed.
Dennis, you are a blast to fish with and I look forward to more "adventures" with you. We stopped on the way home and had some great chili rellanos and enchiladas. A fun day really.
