Hill country creek fishing (Cibolo in Boerne, TX) |

I haven't fished the Cibolo in several months and after the past several rains we have received I thought it would be nice to check it out this morning and
I'm glad I did. You know you are doing good when only after an hour on the water your hands are getting "pruney" looking from constantly being
wet from all the fish you are catching and releasing. It seemed in the first hour or so I was almost catching a fish on every cast or at least getting a bite
on every cast. Today was a personal best for me on catching Guadalupe Bass as I caught 5 and one of them was the largest I have caught to date at probably
close to 2.bs. There were also plenty of perch caught that I nearly had a hard time getting my hands around to unhook them, this was the best day of fishing
I've had in several months, here's a few pics of the Guads:

Yeah, I don't know if they were spawning or what but I carefully unhooked her and put her back in the water making sure she was ok. The other 3 Guads I
caught were pretty small between 4"-6" long but they are pretty fish and I hope to catch them again after they had a chance to grow up a bit, lol. I
didn't even think about taking pictures of the creek, I should have, the water does appear to be up since the last time I was there, maybe about a half a
foot higher or more.
I'm really liking this Fenwick 7' #5 rod using a #4DT line, it seems to work really well on that rod and good size perch along with small bass really put a good bend in the rod.

Sounds like a good choice of line on that rod- especially using DT.

Yeah, it's funny as a teenager when I had first started fly-fishing I used DT line only, now after getting back into it after a nearly 20 year hiatus I
have only been using WF line until I put it on that reel. I may have to try some DT line for a few of my other rods.

Those Guadalupe Bass are on my bucket list. I am truly jealous that you have them in your backyard so to speak!

Pretty bass, sounds like a good day on the water to me! What were they taking?

Nice fish, great days like that don't come along all to often. Glad you were able to have one before full summer sets in.
I've been wondering if some spawning wasn't delayed until the May rains. I haven't caught any Guads in that condition, but many of the sunfish I've taken lately have been in full color.

Thanks for the report borumas. It is good to hear Cibolo Creek got some rain. The last two times I went there it was not very appealing. The last rod I built
is pretty much just for this creek. It is a little Diamondglass 6' 5wt. I can use it on a few other creeks but Cibolo gave me the itch for a rod under
7'. Trent

Thanks guys for the comments. I caught the vast majority of fish on the surface using a yellow spider that I tied with a marabou tail and a little yarn
underbody. This fly sits with most of the body below the surface but it was really killing the fish that day, the marabou tail was nearly all ripped out at the
end of the morning. Some luck was also had with a rusty colored woolly bugger.
