I actually prefer the sweet sound of the Varden, but the Thormburn is more authoritative and voicier for the mics - it has more metal and much more surface
area to ring
I need to get my Hardy Hydra recorded someday - when you strip line off that reel, you see heads a half-mile upriver spin around.
the rods are never obsolete - the marketing is.

Dogfish Head 60-minute IPA is a pretty good brew. Another beer to add to the list.
