I want to throw one more reel into the mix and that's a British CFOIII (I know there are a couple of makers). I've never owned the CFO but have kind of always wanted one and I just wanted some opinions on the CFO in comparison to the Abel and Islander. Any one with experience? I'm assuming the British CFO has more collectability but maybe not. Reels aren't really my specialty. Thanks

CFO IV is more functional as it will take DT lines. In any event, you can't go wrong with a CFO.

It's a great reel - about the same diameter as the Hardy LRH but with a little extra capacity and can of course be palmed. I have a DT5 on one spool and a WF7 on the other. Mine is the older Hardy-made one (I think) - not the disc drag one. I prefer it now to even the Hardy Lightweights. I don't think you could go wrong with one in any size but I do prefer the older ones. That said, the Abel TR2 is a fine reel too. Best to get both.

I use it for light lines (2 & 3) so there's plenty of room for backing and a DT line. The drag is very smooth. I have heard comments that this reel isn't as rugged as some others, but have never had any malfunctions. I TAKE THAT BACK! Just checked the reel and find that the "T" post that the line guard is screwed onto has broken off sometime ago without me noting it before. Ay caramba!
