A few hours of freedom this morning were quickly filled with a trip to local Cowen Lake for a float in the Malecite with Gracie. I wasn't sure what I was
targeting, I was just out to fish. My choice of gear included a Berkely Parametric PD40 with a Hardy/Scientific Anglers System 8 reel spooled with a 6wt
Magnum S.A. Sharkskin fly line. I'll be publishing a review of the line very soon on FFO - suffice it to say that the Para loved this line with a passion!
I fished wooly worms and a deerhair emerger/bug of my own creation. It was a fine morning...

Joe...great to see you getting out this weekend. Beautiful photos. I'm hoping to sneak out on the pond the next two days in the kayak.

Very nice pictures Joe. I was looking forward to fishing in Ohio in a few weeks when the family is there for a wedding, but a new job is keeping me home.

A lake, a Malecite, a good glass rod, and some nice bream. You're a lucky man to have all that handy.

Great outing Joe. Are the gills in pre-spawn mode down your way?

I was shocked to find the beds recently abandoned - the first spawn on Cown is over! The carp are spawning in the shallows, something I normally don't expect for at least two or three more weeks. Typically Cowen gills will be in peak bedding when the day lillies first arrive, but this year it seems like they went 3 to 4weeks early. Bass are already done and long gone - though I enjoyed sight fishing to a couple big bulls still roaming the general vicinity of their beds. They were shut down, but it was fun with the long, leading cast and clear water. Joe C. "Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the

The female gills are starting to bulk up with eggs here. Should be on the beds soon.
