Thought I would post some quick pics of a recent project. My girlfriend liked the heddon rod in my avatar so much, she wanted one like it for herself. It took
a bit of hunting but eventually we found one needing some work. As many of you know, these old heddons are really sweet casters that came from the factory with
far too few guides. So, for me getting one always involves a rebuild and I try to find one that needs it. Sorry no before pics. Wraps and finish are
permagloss.
The reel seat, grip and featherweight winding check were in good shape but it needed a hook keeper.
Other than that, a standard rebuild that came out good. This was not a 100% original restoration, but close. I measured the old wraps and replicated them, but
with more guides. The original stripping guide was cheap and in poor condition so this perfection could be seen as an upgrade. Also, I have to say, the
gudebrod thread we have nowadays looks fantastic compared to whatever was on this rod originally.
