I think the user of the this reel I just received had the pawls flipped upside down. The pawls have a rounded side and a flat side. Shouldn't the flat
side be face down? Posting it here is faster for me than looking at my other reels to figure this out.

pawl on the left is engaged - pawl on the right is disengaged
the rods are never obsolete - the marketing is.

Ron,
That much I knew already... I mean if you physically take the pawl out and look at each side of it. Laying flat on a table one side has sharp edges when turned over and layed flat on the table with the sharp sides down the other is slightly rounded. |

Also interesting to me, this reel has a square line guard that can be reversed. I switched it to Left Hand and it feels really nice really light wind in and
nice resistance on the pay out.

The reel is 1959-61.
Most had the clip line guard, so the line guard is very interesting
the rods are never obsolete - the marketing is.

I am guessing that it was tapped for reversible line guard, the 2 screw line guard though I am not sure where it was made. Again, maybe homemade? The holes
don't seem perfectly centered on the guard itself as you can see in the pic.

Mine has a single screw in the middle of the line guard. Wonder what it dates? Your guard looks authentic though compared to mine.

I have a Grey Beadeux very similar to yours, including the square line guard, but this reel is non reversible. All that aside I've lined it with 30# backing, a floating running line for use with shooting heads. I plan to use it with my 9' 8wt Sceptre build for Shad on the Sac' and American this month.
